About Opel

Opel was founded by Adam Opel in Rüsselsheim in 1862 as a sewing-machine maker; bicycles followed, and in 1899 the first Opel car. In 1924 Opel introduced the moving assembly line in Germany with the small Laubfrosch.

General Motors owned Opel from 1929 to 2017. Its best-known models include the Kadett, Rekord, Kapitän, Manta, GT, Ascona, Corsa, Astra, Vectra, Zafira, Insignia and Mokka. In 2017 Opel was bought by PSA and is now part of Stellantis; in Britain its cars are sold as Vauxhalls.
