About Kia

Kia was founded in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry, a maker of bicycle parts and bicycles, and later added motorcycles, trucks and, from 1974, cars. After a financial crisis, Hyundai took control of Kia in 1998; the two companies share platforms and engines but design their cars separately.

Kia's best-known models include the Picanto, Rio, Ceed – developed for Europe and built in Žilina, Slovakia – Sportage, Sorento, Stinger and Niro, and the electric EV6 and EV9.
