Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data 1cars.org (“1cars”, “we”) processes when you visit the website, use its tools or contact us, why we process it and what rights you have. We process personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable law.
Who is responsible
The controller of personal data is the operator of 1cars.org. You can reach us at any time via the contact form.
What data we process
- Technical data. When you open a page, our server receives standard technical information: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. We use it to deliver the website, keep it secure and fix errors.
- Contact form. If you write to us, we receive your name, e-mail address, subject and message, and use them only to answer you.
- Questions to “Ask 1cars”. If you use the question box at Ask 1cars, the text of your question is sent to an external service that generates the automated answer (Anthropic, PBC, USA) together with excerpts from our own pages. We store the question, the answer and a one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself) to prevent abuse and to improve the answers; e-mail addresses and phone numbers are removed from the stored text. Please do not enter personal information in your question.
- Partner links. When you follow a link marked “Ad · Partner”, we record the click (time, page, partner and a reference number) without your IP address, so that partner programmes can attribute a purchase. What happens on the partner’s website is governed by the partner’s own privacy policy.
- Quiz and games. We count anonymous totals of how often games are started and finished; no personal data is collected for this.
- Comments. Older comments published on the website show the name the commenter chose at the time.
We do not sell personal data and do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.
Data stored only in your browser
“My Garage” (your cars, saved articles, recently viewed pages, comparisons), quiz and game results, your choice of units and your cookie choice are kept in your browser’s local storage on your device. This data is not sent to our server and we cannot see it. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings (site data).
Cookies and analytics
Our public pages do not set cookies unless you agree to them. If we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the website is used, it is loaded only after you accept analytics in our cookie banner (Google Consent Mode); you can change your choice at any time via “Cookie settings”. Analytics data is processed by Google Ireland Limited and may be transferred to the USA under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Embedded videos are loaded from YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com) only after you click to play them; from that moment YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.
Legal basis
We process technical data, partner-link clicks and questions to Ask 1cars on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure and useful website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), contact form data to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR) and analytics only with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
How long we keep data
Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. Questions to Ask 1cars are deleted after 12 months, partner-link clicks after 24 months. Messages sent via the contact form are deleted no later than 12 months after the request has been handled, unless we must keep them longer by law.
Recipients
Data may be processed by our hosting and e-mail service providers, by the provider of automated answers for Ask 1cars and, with your consent, by Google Analytics, on our behalf and under appropriate agreements. Where data is transferred outside the EU, this is based on an adequacy decision or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. We disclose data to authorities only where required by applicable law.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, use the contact form.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our website or the law changes. The current version is always published on this page.
