Dodge Muscle Cars

Dodge's muscle cars came from Chrysler's B-body — Coronet R/T, Charger, Super Bee — and E-body — Challenger — with the 426 Hemi and the 440 Magnum and Six Pack V8s; the compact Dart GTS and Demon carried the 340. Sold together as the 'Scat Pack' from 1968, the formula returned in the 2000s with the Charger sedan and the Challenger coupé.

12 Dodge models are on our muscle car list. Power is in kW first; ratings before the 1972 model year are SAE gross, later ones SAE net.

Dodge Muscle Cars: questions and answers

Which Dodge models are muscle cars?

On 1CARS: Dodge Coronet, Dodge Charger, Dodge Charger 500, Dodge Charger R/T, Dodge Dart, Dodge Super Bee, Dodge Charger Daytona, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Challenger T/A, Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

What is the most powerful Dodge muscle car?

Among classic cars rated SAE gross: the Dodge Challenger (1970–2023), with 317 kW (431 PS · 425 hp). Since 1972 (SAE net): the Dodge Challenger (1970–2023), with 764 kW (1,039 PS · 1,025 hp).

What is the difference between gross and net horsepower?

Until the 1971 model year American makers advertised SAE gross power, measured on an engine without accessories, air cleaner or full exhaust. From 1972 they switched to SAE net, measured as installed in the car. The same engine reads clearly lower in net, so 1960s and modern figures are not directly comparable — 1CARS ranks them separately.
