About Volvo
Volvo Cars was founded in Gothenburg in 1927, when the first series-built car, the ÖV 4, left the factory; the company was founded by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson as a subsidiary of the bearing maker SKF.
Volvo is known for safety: the three-point seat belt, invented by Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin, was introduced in 1959 and its patent released for all. Key models include the PV444, Amazon, P1800, 240, 850, XC90, XC60 and the electric EX30. Ford owned Volvo Cars from 1999 to 2010; since 2010 it has belonged to Geely. Volvo trucks are made by the separate Volvo Group.
