About Pontiac
Pontiac was launched by General Motors in 1926 as a companion make to Oakland and soon outsold it, replacing the Oakland brand in the early 1930s. It was named after the Ottawa chief Pontiac.
Pontiac became GM's performance brand: the GTO of 1964 is regarded as one of the first muscle cars, followed by the Firebird and Trans Am; other key models include the Bonneville, Catalina, Grand Prix, the mid-engined Fiero (1984) and the Solstice. GM closed Pontiac in 2010.
