Which K9 Doblò to choose

Our verdict · Sarah Whitmore

  • City deliveries and short trips: the E-Doblò, with 100 kW DC charging, as long as the 286 km WLTP range and 750 kg towing limit suit you.
  • Long distances and towing: the 1.5 BlueHDi 130, ideally with the eight-speed automatic and the 1,350 kg (2,976 lb) L1 towing limit.
  • Maximum load: the L2 van with the higher payload, carrying up to 953 kg (2,101 lb) and 3,900 L.

The Fiat range shows the K9 alongside Fiat's other current models, and other workhorses appear among diesel cars.

The Fiat Doblò K9 is the third generation of Fiat's high-roof passenger car and small van, presented in June 2022 and built in Vigo, Spain. Unlike its two predecessors it is not a Fiat design: it shares the Stellantis EMP2 base with the Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Rifter. The electric E-Doblò came first; diesel and petrol versions followed, mainly as Fiat Professional vans.

In short

  • Presented and put into production in June 2022; it took over from the Turkish-built 263 in Europe that September.
  • Engines: 1.2 PureTech petrol with 81 kW (110 PS), 1.5 BlueHDi diesel from 74 kW (100 PS) to 96 kW (130 PS), and the 100 kW (136 PS) E-Doblò.
  • Two body lengths: the 4,403 mm (173.3 in) L1 and the 4,753 mm (187.1 in) L2, plus a Multicab crew van.
  • Euro NCAP's 2025 commercial-van test of its Citroën twin, which Euro NCAP says covers the K9, ended with a Gold medal.

From Fiat engineering to a Stellantis twin

The K9 is the first Doblò that Fiat did not engineer itself. Its arrival followed the merger of FCA and PSA into Stellantis at the start of 2021, after which German sources describe it as almost identical to the Citroën Berlingo, Opel Combo, Peugeot Rifter and Partner and Toyota Proace City.

The engines now come from the former PSA side: the PureTech three-cylinder petrol, the BlueHDi diesel and the group's electric drive. Production moved from Tofaş in Turkey to the Stellantis plant in Vigo, Spain.

At launch the passenger version was sold in Germany only as the electric E-Doblò, while the Fiat Professional van also had petrol and diesel engines. For how this generation fits into the full history of the nameplate, see the Fiat Doblò model overview.

EMP2 base and the Berlingo family

The K9 uses the EMP2 platform of the third-generation Citroën Berlingo and the current Peugeot Partner. The Berlingo III dates from 2018, which is why Euro NCAP's statement about the Doblò refers to cars "from 2018".

The E-Doblò in ADAC's data has disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear, while the 1.5 BlueHDi van uses discs all round.

Fiat gave the passenger car a few named features. Auto Zeitung's 2022 test car had a "Magic Window" rear screen that opens separately from the tailgate, a "Magic Top" glass roof and roof-level storage running back towards the tailgate. The commercial side has "Magic Cargo", which Italian sources say allows a load length of up to 3.09 m (10.1 ft).

E-Doblò: battery, range and charging

The E-Doblò was the headline model at launch. ADAC's catalogue data for the L1 passenger version built from November 2022 to December 2023 give these figures:

  • Motor: permanent-magnet synchronous motor driving the front wheels through a single-speed reduction gear, 100 kW (136 PS) peak and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft).
  • Battery: 50 kWh gross, nickel-cobalt-manganese chemistry, 400 V system; ADAC gives no net figure.
  • Range and consumption: 286 km (178 miles) WLTP combined and 19.3 kWh/100 km; Auto Zeitung's 2022 data quoted 282 km (175 miles).
  • Charging: up to 11 kW on three-phase AC, about 305 minutes from empty to full; up to 100 kW DC on CCS, about 30 minutes to 80%.
  • Performance: 0–100 km/h in 11.2 seconds, 130 km/h (81 mph) maximum.

ADAC lists an eight-year or 160,000 km (99,400 miles) warranty on the high-voltage battery, valid down to 70% state of health. The electric car is limited to 750 kg (1,653 lb) on a trailer, braked or unbraked, far less than the diesel van. ADAC priced the E-Doblò L1 at EUR 39,990 for the 2022–23 model period; the Launch Pack was EUR 41,490.

PureTech and BlueHDi engines

Combustion versions use two familiar Stellantis engines. Diesels have SCR and a particulate filter, with a 17 L AdBlue tank next to the 53 L (11.7 UK gal) fuel tank.

Engine Fuel Power Torque Gearbox Notes
1.2 PureTech Petrol 81 kW (110 PS) not listed by ADAC manual van and later passenger car
1.5 BlueHDi Diesel 74–75 kW (100–102 PS) not listed by ADAC manual ADAC lists 75 kW (102 PS) after the facelift
1.5 BlueHDi (1,499 cm³, YH01) Diesel 96 kW (130 PS) at 3,750 rpm 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at 1,750 rpm 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic timing belt, common rail
E-Doblò Electric 100 kW (136 PS) 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) single speed 50 kWh gross battery

ADAC does not state the number of gears for the manual petrol and the smaller diesel, so check the exact car. ADAC records the 96 kW L1 van with the automatic at 183 km/h (114 mph), 6.5 L/100 km (43.5 mpg UK) and 162 g/km of CO2 on the WLTP cycle. The facelifted L2 van with the same engine is listed at 5.4 L/100 km (52.3 mpg UK).

The passenger E-Doblò seats five. ADAC lists the L2 van with two seats as standard and three as an option, and a Multicab L2 crew-cab van with a second row.

Euro NCAP 2025 commercial-van result

No Euro NCAP passenger-car rating under the Doblò name was found. Euro NCAP's commercial-van programme, which grades driver-assistance systems rather than crash performance, tested the Citroën ë-Berlingo with the Safety Pack and published the result on 8 May 2025. Euro NCAP states that this rating applies to all third-generation K9 Doblòs and all their powertrains, and describes a four-star level of safety in the Gold medal band.

Testers praised the lane support and a speed limiter accurate to within 5 km/h. Emergency braking worked well at lower speeds against stationary or slower cars, but its performance faded at higher speeds; it did not react to a turning vehicle or to pedestrians behind the reversing van, and showed very little reaction to a cyclist. Blind-spot monitoring was not available.

Because the test car had the Safety Pack, equipment matters when buying. ADAC's data for the early L1 diesel van list only a driver airbag, ABS, ESP and a speed limiter as standard, with emergency braking, lane keeping and even a passenger airbag in option packs. The E-Doblò passenger car has front, side and curtain airbags, emergency braking and lane keeping as standard.

Facelift and the 25th Anniversary Edition

The K9 was updated within two years of launch. German Wikipedia dates the revised van to October 2023 and the passenger car to December 2023; ADAC's facelift listings start in March 2024. After the update ADAC lists a 75 kW (102 PS) diesel, a 1.2 PureTech petrol for the L1 van and passenger Doblò versions with combustion engines from 2025. The facelifted L2 van gains passenger and side airbags, city emergency braking and traffic sign recognition as standard.

In October 2025 Fiat marked 25 years of the Doblò with a Special Anniversary Edition, available to order with diesel or electric power. Italian reports describe a green livery, a front bumper plate, the Advanced Grip Control package and the Magic Cargo system.

Recalls and ownership points

The K9 is too new for a TÜV report, and no independent reliability survey was found. ADAC records one significant recall, issued in April 2026: the intelligent speed assistant on cars built from November 2023 to March 2025 could show passenger-car speed limits instead of those for commercial vehicles. A body control module software update fixes it; 71,756 vehicles are affected worldwide.

ADAC gives a two-year vehicle warranty, with eight years against rust perforation. The closest rival with different engineering is the Renault Kangoo.

FAQ

When did the third-generation Fiat Doblò come out?

Fiat presented the K9 in June 2022, and production started that month in Vigo, Spain. It replaced the second-generation Doblò in Europe in September 2022.

Is the new Fiat Doblò the same as the Citroën Berlingo?

Mechanically, yes. It shares the EMP2 platform, engines and body structure with the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Rifter and Partner, Opel Combo and Toyota Proace City.

What is the range of the Fiat E-Doblò?

ADAC lists 286 km (178 miles) on the WLTP cycle from a 50 kWh gross battery. DC charging at up to 100 kW takes about 30 minutes to 80%.

What engines are available in the Doblò K9?

A 1.2 PureTech petrol with 81 kW (110 PS), a 1.5 BlueHDi diesel with 74–96 kW (100–130 PS) and the electric E-Doblò with 100 kW (136 PS). The strongest diesel can have an eight-speed automatic.

How safe is the Fiat Doblò K9?

Euro NCAP's 2025 commercial-van rating, based on the Citroën ë-Berlingo with Safety Pack, applies to the K9 and placed it in the Gold band. It is an assistance-systems grading, not a passenger-car crash-test star rating.
