Our verdict · Felix Hartmann

  • For new-car buyers: the second generation, with 60 kW, optional 50 kW DC charging and the platform of the Twingo E-Tech; from €17,900 in Germany (October 2026).
  • For the lowest used price: a first-generation 33 kW Spring; check whether the 30 kW fast-charging option is fitted.
  • For more performance in the old shape: the 48 kW Spring Extreme of 2023–2026.
  • For safety: the second generation; the first Spring had only one Euro NCAP star.

The Spring appears in our list of the best small city cars. Larger Dacia and Renault models are covered in the guides to the Renault Sandero and the Renault Duster, and the electric Renault story in the guide to the Renault Zoe.

The Dacia Spring is a small electric city car in the A segment, positioned below the Logan and the Sandero. The first generation, built in China from 2021, was based on the Renault City K-ZE, itself an electric version of the Renault Kwid. It sold more than 210,000 cars in over 40 countries. A facelift arrived in 2024. On 8 September 2026 Dacia introduced a completely new second generation, built in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, on the same platform as the Renault Twingo E-Tech.

In short

  • First generation 2021–2026: 33 kW (45 PS) or 48 kW (65 PS), battery of about 27 kWh, WLTP range of about 220 to 230 km.
  • Euro NCAP gave the first Spring one star in 2021.
  • Second generation since 2026: 60 kW (82 PS), 27.5 kWh LFP battery, up to 250 km WLTP, optional 50 kW DC charging.
  • Dacia Germany lists the new Spring from €17,900 and the previous model from €19,700 (October 2026).

First generation (2021–2026)

Dacia presented the Spring Electric concept on 3 March 2020, after its planned debut at the Geneva Motor Show was cancelled. The production version followed on 15 October 2020. Sales began in two phases: first to car-sharing and rental companies and then, from October 2021, to private buyers. A Spring Cargo van version had arrived in December 2020.

The Spring was based on the Renault City K-ZE sold in China, the electric version of the Renault Kwid. In Europe it had a 27.4 kWh battery (26.8 kWh in the Chinese version) and a 33 kW (45 PS) motor, with an initial WLTP range of about 230 km. A June 2022 update set the kerb weight at 970 kg and approved the car for four occupants. In January 2023 the Spring Extreme added a 48 kW (65 PS) motor; its WLTP range was 220 km. The extra 15 kW therefore cost about 10 km of WLTP range.

The first Spring sold 17,398 cars in Europe in 2021 alone. In Romania, Dacia's home market, about 10,000 were sold in 2021 and 2022. The history of Dacia explains how the Romanian state carmaker became Renault's value brand.

The 2024 facelift

Dacia unveiled the facelifted Spring on 21 February 2024. The front and rear were redesigned, and a right-hand-drive version for the UK and Ireland was added. Inside, a 7-inch touchscreen became standard, with a 10-inch screen in the top trims.

Facelift (2024) Value
Versions 33 kW (45 PS) in Essential and Expression, 48 kW (65 PS) in Extreme
Torque 125 Nm
0–62 mph 20 s (33 kW), 14 s (48 kW)
Battery 26.8 kWh
Length / width / height 3,730 / 1,776 / 1,520 mm; wheelbase 2,420 mm
Boot 308 litres, 1,008 litres with seats folded; optional front storage box
Weight 984 kg

The standard 7 kW AC charger fills the battery from 20 to 100 percent in about four hours at a wallbox and about 11 hours from a household socket. An optional 30 kW charger takes it from 20 to 80 percent in about 45 minutes. In October 2025 a 24.3 kWh LFP battery replaced the earlier unit. Dacia gave a WLTP range of 225 km and about 20 percent more torque in the mid-range.

Second generation (since 2026)

The second Spring was introduced on 8 September 2026. It is no longer built in China but by Revoz in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. It shares the RGEV Small platform with the Renault Twingo E-Tech.

Spring II Value
Motor 60 kW (82 PS), 175 Nm
0–100 km/h 12.1 s
Top speed 130 km/h
Battery 27.5 kWh LFP
WLTP range up to 250 km
AC charging 6.6 kW standard (15–80 % in about 9 hours); 11 kW optional (under 2 hours)
DC charging 50 kW optional (15–80 % in 28 minutes)
Boot 337 litres, 1,283 litres with seats folded

The new car is faster than the old 48 kW version: 0–100 km/h takes 12.1 seconds. Its boot is also 29 litres larger than after the 2024 facelift. With 175 Nm the new motor has 50 Nm more torque than the facelifted first generation, and the 27.5 kWh battery is slightly larger than the 26.8 kWh pack of 2024. Dacia announced a price below €20,000 before incentives and targeted less than €18,000; in October 2026 Dacia Germany lists it at €17,900 (recommended retail price, plus delivery). That is €1,800 less than Dacia Germany's price for the outgoing model in October 2026.

Safety

Euro NCAP tested the first-generation Spring in 2021 and gave it one star. It scored 49 percent for adult occupants, 56 for children, 39 for pedestrians and 32 for the assistance systems. The safety assistance score of 32 percent was the lowest of the four areas. No Euro NCAP result for the second generation is given in the sources used here.

Consumption and running costs

Dacia Germany lists 12.7 kWh/100 km combined for the "Spring Electric 70" version of the earlier model. The WLTP range is about 225 km with the 2025 battery and up to 250 km for the new car.
