About ZIL
ZIL (the Likhachev Plant) was founded in Moscow in 1916 as AMO. It built the AMO-F-15 truck in 1924 and the ZIS-5 truck in the 1930s; it was known as ZIS from 1931 and as ZIL from 1956.
The plant is known for medium-duty trucks – the ZIL-157, ZIL-130 (1962) and the six-wheel-drive ZIL-131 – and for hand-built limousines such as the ZIS-110, ZIL-111, ZIL-114 and ZIL-4104. Vehicle production ended in the 2010s.
