Our verdict · Felix Hartmann
- Best value: the 61 kWh Teamplayer, which adds 22 kW and the full 426 km range for EUR 7,000 more than the 49 kWh car.
- For winter and rough roads: the Lounge AWD with 135 kW and 300 Nm.
- On a tight budget: a used XP110 1.33 petrol, simple and light, with a six-speed manual.
- Used 4x4 diesel: the XP110 1.4 D-4D AWD, a rare small four-wheel-drive car with 205 Nm.
In Europe, the Toyota Urban Cruiser name has been used for two quite different cars: a small petrol and diesel crossover sold from 2009 to 2014, and a battery-electric compact SUV that reached showrooms in early 2026. The electric Urban Cruiser is a twin of the Suzuki e Vitara, built by Suzuki in Gujarat, India, with 49 or 61 kWh batteries and up to 426 km of WLTP range. In India, Africa and the Middle East the name has also appeared on rebadged Suzuki models.
In short
- First Urban Cruiser (XP110): 2009-2014 in Europe, 1.33 petrol with 73 kW (99 PS) or 1.4 D-4D diesel with 66 kW (90 PS), diesel also with four-wheel drive.
- Electric Urban Cruiser: on sale in Germany from February 2026, 106-135 kW (144-184 PS), front- or all-wheel drive.
- Prices in Germany (2026): from EUR 31,990 (49 kWh) to EUR 44,990 (61 kWh AWD).
- Euro NCAP: three stars for the XP110, four stars (2025) for the electric model.

XP110 (2009-2014). The first Urban Cruiser was the European version of the second-generation Toyota ist, which also served as the Scion xD in North America. It made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008, and ADAC lists German versions from April 2009 to June 2014. Both engines came with a six-speed manual only; no automatic was offered in Europe. The petrol engine was the 1NR-FE, the diesel the 1ND-TV, and the diesel could be ordered with all-wheel drive. In Japan the ist ran until April 2016.
India and Africa (2020-2022). The second car to wear the name was a rebadged Suzuki Vitara Brezza, part of the Suzuki-Toyota cooperation. A Grand Vitara twin followed as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in India (2022) and as the Urban Cruiser in South Africa and the Middle East (2023), and the Fronx-based Urban Cruiser Taisor arrived in 2024. None of these was offered in Europe.
Electric Urban Cruiser (2025-). Toyota previewed the electric model with the Urban SUV Concept in December 2023 and revealed the production car on 12 December 2024. It is a rebadged Suzuki e Vitara, which Suzuki presented in Milan in November 2024. Production at Suzuki Motor Gujarat began in August 2025; around half of the plant's output is exported. European sales opened in December 2025 with deliveries in the first quarter of 2026. In India it is called Urban Cruiser Ebella.

The electric versions use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade-cell batteries supplied by BYD's FinDreams and Tata. ADAC lists the 61 kWh front-drive car at 8.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of 150 km/h.

Charging and range
The 61 kWh front-wheel-drive model has a WLTP range of 426 km (581 km in the city cycle) and an official consumption of 15.1 kWh/100 km. It charges at up to 11 kW on AC (about six hours for a full charge) and up to 67 kW on DC, reaching 80% in about 45 minutes. The 49 kWh version's range is not listed in the ADAC data we used. Euro NCAP awarded the XP110 Urban Cruiser three stars (2009). The electric model, tested in September 2025 with results shared with the Suzuki e Vitara, received four stars: 77% for adult occupants, 85% for children, 79% for vulnerable road users and 72% for safety assist.
Reliability and known issues
The electric Urban Cruiser has been on sale for too short a time for independent reliability data. The XP110 used engines shared with other small Toyotas of the period; we found no sourced pattern of faults specific to it.
