Which EV6 to choose

Our verdict · Felix Hartmann

  • For the lowest price: the EV6 Air with 125 kW and the smaller battery, from €44,990 in Germany (October 2026).
  • For the longest range: a facelifted rear-wheel-drive car with the 84 kWh battery, up to 582 km WLTP.
  • For winter roads and towing: an all-wheel-drive version with 239 kW and 605 Nm.
  • For performance: the EV6 GT, with 430 kW and 3.5 seconds to 100 km/h, at the cost of comfort equipment and range.
  • For a used buy: a 2022–2024 Long Range with the 77.4 kWh battery and 240 kW DC charging; the facelift added the 84 kWh pack.

The EV6 is part of a long story told in the history of Kia. Kia's combustion and hybrid SUVs are covered in our guides to the Kia Sportage and the Kia Niro.

The Kia EV6 is a mid-size electric crossover built since 2021 and the first Kia designed only as an electric car. It was the first Kia on the Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated E-GMP electric platform. The EV6 was European Car of the Year 2022, gained a 430 kW GT version the same year and was facelifted in 2024 with a larger 84 kWh battery. Kia builds it in Hwaseong, South Korea, and, for North America, also in West Point, Georgia.

In short

  • Production since 2021; facelift revealed on 14 May 2024.

Charging and battery

The EV6 charges at up to 11 kW on alternating current. On DC the 58 kWh battery accepts up to 180 kW and the 77.4 kWh battery up to 240 kW. With the small battery, 10 to 80 percent at a 180 kW charger takes about 18 minutes. At a 50 kW charger the same charge takes just over an hour.

After the facelift Kia Germany gives 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes for the 84 kWh battery. The charger must deliver at least 258 kW for that time. In about 15 minutes the car recharges energy for 343 km. The EV6 can also power external devices through vehicle-to-load, with up to 3.6 kW in Europe.

Facelift of 2024

Kia revealed the updated EV6 on 14 May 2024. The front was redesigned with new angular LED headlights and daytime running lights, and new alloy wheels were added. Inside there is a revised curved panoramic screen, a new steering wheel and a fingerprint reader that can start the car. The 77.4 kWh battery was replaced by an 84 kWh pack. For Germany Kia now lists a 63 kWh "short range" battery and the 84 kWh "long range" battery, each with rear- or all-wheel drive.

Version (Germany, October 2026) Power Combined consumption
EV6 Air 125 kW (170 PS) 16.4 kWh/100 km
EV6 Earth 168 kW (229 PS) 16.9 kWh/100 km
EV6 GT-line 239 kW (325 PS) 17.7 kWh/100 km

The list starts at €44,990 for the EV6 Air (Kia Germany, October 2026). The WLTP range reaches up to 582 km with the 84 kWh battery on 19-inch wheels.

EV6 GT

The EV6 GT went on sale on 4 October 2022. Two motors deliver 430 kW (585 PS) and 740 Nm, enough for 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h. It has four-piston brake calipers and an electronic limited-slip differential at the rear. Electronically controlled dampers, 21-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres are standard. A GT Mode button on the steering wheel switches all systems to their sportiest setting. In exchange, the GT does without ventilated and electrically adjusted seats and has less range than the regular versions. The body is 5 mm lower, at 1,545 mm.
