Our verdict · Felix Hartmann
- Best value: a 2023 Colt 1.0 Turbo; in Germany the Turbo Plus cost EUR 1,200 more than the 1.0 Plus in 2023 and has 18 kW more.
- Most powerful and only automatic: the 2023 Colt 1.6 Hybrid with 105 kW (143 PS).
- Older and simpler: a Z30 1.3 with 70 kW (95 PS).
- For fun: a Z30 CZT or Ralliart with the 110 kW turbo, or the CZC coupe-cabriolet.
The Mitsubishi Colt is the small hatchback Mitsubishi sold in Europe from 1978 to 2013 and again from 2023 to 2025. For five generations it was the European name of the Mirage; the sixth, the Z30 of 2004-2013, was built in the Netherlands; and the seventh was a twin of the Renault Clio built in Turkey, with an optional 105 kW full hybrid. In Germany the last Colts were listed until early 2026.
In short
- Seven European generations: five Mirage-based Colts (1978-2004), the Z30 (2004-2013) and the Clio-based Colt (2023-2025).
- The Z30 offered 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 petrol engines, a 1.5 three-cylinder diesel, the 110 kW (150 PS) turbocharged CZT/Ralliart and the CZC coupe-cabriolet.
- The 2023 Colt: 1.0 with 49 kW (67 PS), 1.0 turbo with 67 kW (91 PS) and 1.6 hybrid with 105 kW (143 PS).
- German prices for the 2023 Colt started at EUR 18,290 (1.0 Basis, October 2023).

Years follow the German ADAC catalogue; Japanese production dates differ slightly. In the first five generations the hatchback was called Colt in Europe and the saloon Lancer, while in Japan both were Mirage. The fifth generation was the last Mirage-based Colt in Europe. When Mitsubishi revived the Mirage name in 2012, Europe received it as the Space Star, not as a Colt.

The Z30 (2004-2013)
The Z30 arrived in Germany in June 2004 and was built at NedCar in Born, which also built the Smart Forfour; in Germany the three-door was badged CZ3. A Japanese version, the Z20, had appeared in October 2002. Pininfarina in Turin built the Colt CZC, a 2+2 with a folding hard top.
| Engine (Z30) | Power | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| 1.1 three-cylinder (3A91) | 55 kW (75 PS) | 100 Nm |
| 1.3 (4A90) | 70 kW (95 PS) | 125 Nm |
| 1.5 (4A91) | 80 kW (109 PS) | 145 Nm |
| 1.5 turbo (4G15), CZT / Ralliart | 110 kW (150 PS) | 210 Nm |
| 1.5 DI-D three-cylinder diesel | 50 or 70 kW (68 or 95 PS) | 210 Nm (70 kW) |
The diesel, sold in Germany from 2005 to 2008, was a Mercedes-Benz OM639 three-cylinder. After the late-2008 facelift ADAC lists only petrol engines, the 1.1 and 1.3 in ClearTec economy versions, and from 2009 to 2011 factory LPG versions of the 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 turbo. The turbocharged CZT was renamed Ralliart after the facelift and kept 110 kW in Germany. German list prices began at EUR 10,990 for the 1.1 five-door in October 2004 and EUR 9,990 for the 1.1 CZ3 in 2005.

The 2023 Colt: a Renault Clio twin
Mitsubishi revealed the new Colt online on 9 June 2023 and opened European sales in October 2023. Developed by Renault on the alliance's CMF-B platform and built in Renault's Bursa plant in Turkey, it is a rebadged fifth-generation Clio with a Mitsubishi front end and its own trims. Mitsubishi calls it the seventh Colt for Europe, returning after nine years.
| Engine (2023 Colt) | Power | Gearbox |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 three-cylinder | 49 kW (67 PS) | 5-speed manual |
| 1.0 turbo three-cylinder | 67 kW (91 PS) | 6-speed manual |
| 1.6 full hybrid | 105 kW (143 PS) system | multi-mode automatic |
The hybrid combines a 1.6 petrol engine with two electric motors, a starter-generator and a main motor, and a 1.2 kWh battery. ADAC lists the last German versions until February 2026, while Wikipedia gives the end of 2025 as the end of the model. Our power converter translates the outputs into other units.
