Launch and markets
Toyota unveiled the Corolla Cross in Thailand in July 2020 and launched it there on 9 July 2020. Other South-East Asian markets and Taiwan followed the same year. The car shares the TNGA-C platform and the 2,640 mm wheelbase of the C-HR.
The US version was unveiled on 2 June 2021, and production started in Huntsville, Alabama, on 30 September 2021. At first it was offered only with a 2.0-litre petrol engine. A hybrid with standard all-wheel drive followed on 1 June 2022 for the 2023 model year. Europe received the Corolla Cross in 2022, built in Japan and sold only as a hybrid.

| 2.0 M20A-FKS | petrol, CVT with launch gear (US, Japan) | 126 kW (171 PS) | 207–210 Nm |

| 2.0 M20A-FXS Hybrid | hybrid, e-CVT | 146 kW (199 PS) | - |
The European figures are those listed by Toyota Germany in 2026; Wikipedia gives 146 kW for the 2.0 hybrid. The US car's CVT has a mechanical first gear for pulling away. In Europe the AWD-i system adds a 30.6 kW (42 PS) electric motor on the rear axle and is offered only with the 2.0 hybrid. All engines are in the Toyota catalogue. In Europe the 2.0 Hybrid therefore has 29 kW more than the 1.8 Hybrid.

Suspension and all-wheel drive
Front-wheel-drive Corolla Cross versions have MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion-beam rear axle. All-wheel-drive versions use an independent rear suspension. In the European AWD-i the rear electric motor engages when traction is needed, and Toyota Germany combines it with a "Snow Extra" driving mode.
Fuel consumption
| Version | Consumption | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 1.8 Hybrid (Germany) | 4.9–5.0 l/100 km | Toyota Germany |
| 2.0 Hybrid (Germany) | 5.1–5.5 l/100 km | Toyota Germany |
| Hybrid, test (New Zealand) | 5.3 l/100 km measured | Consumer NZ |
| Hybrid AWD, test (Canada) | 6.1 l/100 km over 680 km, mostly motorway, in winter | AutoTrader.ca |
Consumer NZ measured 5.3 l/100 km at the pump against Toyota's claim of 4.8 l/100 km, and saw less than 4 l/100 km in rush-hour traffic. The Canadian test of the 2024 hybrid gave 6.1 l/100 km against an official 5.6 l/100 km. In Toyota Germany's data the 2.0 Hybrid uses 0.2 to 0.5 l/100 km more than the 1.8 Hybrid.
Facelift of 2025
The facelift was shown in May 2025, for the 2026 model year in the US. It brought a new front bumper with a body-coloured honeycomb grille and replaced the foot-operated parking brake with an electric one. In Europe the updated range is offered in High and GR Sport trims. The GR Sport has its own bumper with a body-coloured panel and a silver lower air dam. In the US the petrol versions now come only with all-wheel drive.

Corolla Cross in North America and other markets
In the US the original range consisted of the 2.0-litre petrol engine in L, LE and XLE trims, with optional all-wheel drive. The Corolla Cross Hybrid of the 2023 model year came with standard all-wheel drive and its own S, SE and XSE trims. For the 2026 model year Toyota swapped the trim names: the petrol cars are now S, SE and XSE, all with all-wheel drive, and the hybrids L, LE and XLE.
The model is assembled in many countries for its regional markets. Japanese production moved from Takaoka to Iwate in 2025, and further plants are in Thailand, Taiwan, Brazil, Malaysia, China, South Africa and Pakistan. In South Africa the Corolla Cross was named Car of the Year 2022, and in December 2025 it was the country's best-selling passenger car.
Safety
Euro NCAP tested the Corolla Cross 2.0 Hybrid in 2022. It scored 85 percent for adult occupants, 83 for children, 87 for vulnerable road users and 82 for the assistance systems. Its best result was the 87 percent score for vulnerable road users.
