The WEY Mocha is a mid-size premium SUV from Great Wall Motor's WEY brand, presented in January 2021 and built in Tianjin, China. In Europe it was sold as the WEY Coffee 01 in 2023 and has been called the GWM WEY 05 since 2024. The European car is a plug-in hybrid with a 2.0-litre turbo engine, all-wheel drive and 350 kW (476 PS), 146 km of electric range on the WLTP cycle and five Euro NCAP stars from 2022. ADAC list prices in Germany ran from €55,900 in 2023 to €63,900 from 2024.
WEY was introduced by Great Wall Motor on 16 November 2016 as an "accessible" luxury SUV brand. Its name comes from the surname of GWM chairman Wei Jianjun. The first models were the VV7 of early 2017, the smaller VV5 and VV6 and the P8 plug-in hybrid, all premium crossovers based on Haval models.

From 2021 WEY renamed its range after coffee drinks: the Mocha replaced the VV7, and the Latte and Macchiato replaced the VV5. The large Lanshan SUV and the Gaoshan MPV followed in 2023. The Tank 300 off-roader also began as a WEY in 2020 before Tank became a brand of its own. At the end of 2022 GWM announced WEY's arrival in Germany and France. The parent company's story is in the history of Great Wall Motor.

Launch in China
GWM presented the Mocha in January 2021, and sales started in April 2021 at Auto Shanghai. It was the first of the coffee-named models and took over from the VV7 as the brand's mid-size SUV. The first engine was a 2.0-litre turbo petrol, the GW4E20CB, with 157 kW (213 PS) at launch. Plug-in hybrids followed: a 1.5-litre turbo GW4E15BD from 2022 to 2024, a revised 1.5-litre GWE15BE since 2024, and a 2.0-litre turbo GW4C20A. The electric motor has 85 kW, and power reaches the wheels through a nine-speed dual-clutch hybrid transmission.
Chinese sales have been modest: 5,037 in 2023, 2,924 in 2024 and 1,915 in 2025, according to Wikipedia EN.

The European plug-in hybrid
| Item | WEY Coffee 01 2.0 PHEV AWD (ADAC) |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1,998 cc four-cylinder turbo petrol |
| System power | 350 kW (476 PS) |
| System torque | 847 Nm |
| Battery | 41.8 kWh gross, 39.7 kWh net |
| 0–100 km/h | 5.0 s |
| Top speed | 235 km/h; 135 km/h on electricity |
| Electric range (WLTP) | 146 km |
| Consumption (WLTP) | 0.4 l/100 km plus 24.4 kWh/100 km |
| Charging | 11 kW AC (three-phase, Type 2); 50 kW DC (CCS) |
| Length / width / height | 4,870 / 1,960 / 1,690 mm |
| Kerb weight | 2,335 kg |
The European version combines the 2.0-litre turbo with electric drive and all-wheel drive. With 350 kW and 847 Nm it reaches 100 km/h in five seconds, and the WLTP electric range of 146 km covers many daily trips without using the engine. Like all plug-in hybrids, its WLTP fuel figure of 0.4 l/100 km depends on frequent charging; with a flat battery the engine does most of the work and consumption rises.
Besides the 11 kW on-board charger for AC, the car accepts DC fast charging at up to 50 kW, which shortens stops on longer trips.

From Coffee 01 to WEY 05
In Europe GWM first used the coffee theme, and the Mocha became the Coffee 01. From 2024 GWM switched to number names, and the Coffee 01 became the GWM WEY 05. The technical specification stayed the same: both cars in the ADAC catalogue have the 2.0 PHEV with 350 kW (476 PS) and all-wheel drive, in Premium and Luxury trims.

Who the WEY 05 suits and its rivals
The WEY 05 is an option for buyers who want a powerful plug-in hybrid SUV with a long electric range and can charge at home or at work. The Premium trim at €59,900 in 2024 gives the same drive as the Luxury. The open questions are the dealer network and resale values of a still young brand in Europe. Inside GWM's own range, the Haval H6 is a cheaper SUV, and the BYD Song Pro DM-i is another Chinese plug-in hybrid. The compare section helps to set the WEY against other SUVs, and the cost of ownership calculator shows what a plug-in hybrid costs to run. WEY's models are listed in the WEY catalogue.
