First generation (2007–2013)

Hyundai announced the first i10 on 31 October 2007 in New Delhi. It was built in Hyundai's Chennai plant for India and for export, including Europe. The car was 3,565 mm long on a 2,380 mm wheelbase and had a 225-litre boot. A 1.1-litre three-cylinder CRDi diesel was offered in Europe and India alongside the petrol engines. In the UK the i10 became a popular buy during the 2009 government scrappage scheme. European sales rose from 353 cars in 2007 to 109,424 in 2009. In India it was named Indian Car of the Year 2008.

Second generation (2013–2019)

The second i10 was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013 and reached European showrooms in January 2014. It was built by Hyundai Assan in İzmit, Turkey, where production began in late September 2013, with a capacity of 200,000 cars a year. The car was 80 mm longer, 65 mm wider and 50 mm lower than before. Its boot grew by about 10 percent to 252 litres.

1.0 Kappa MPi 49 kW (66 PS) 95 Nm five-speed manual or four-speed automatic
1.0 Kappa LPi (LPG) 49 kW (67 PS) 90 Nm five-speed manual
1.25 Kappa MPi 64 kW (87 PS) 121 Nm —

Equipment could include automatic air conditioning, daytime running lights, curtain airbags, tyre pressure monitoring and hill-start assist; electronic stability control was standard on all European cars. In the 2014 Euro NCAP test the second i10 scored 79 percent for adult occupants, 80 for children, 71 for pedestrians and 56 for the assistance systems. A facelift followed in 2017.

Third generation (2019–2026)

The third i10 was revealed just before the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019, about a month after the Indian Grand i10 Nios. It was designed, developed and built in Europe. Compared with its predecessor the roof was 20 mm lower and the body 20 mm wider. Production started at Hyundai Assan in January 2020.

1.0 Kappa II MPi 49 kW (67 PS) 96 Nm — —
1.2 Kappa II MPi 62 kW (84 PS) 118 Nm 12.6 s (manual), 15.8 s (AMT) 171 km/h
1.0 T-GDi turbo 74 kW (100 PS) 172 Nm 10.5 s 185 km/h

Both MPi engines have idle stop-and-go. They are offered with a manual gearbox or an automated manual (AMT); the turbo comes with a five-speed manual. The N Line, launched with the 1.0 T-GDi, adds a sportier body kit. In its 2020 WLTP data the N Line used 52.3 mpg (about 5.4 l/100 km) and emitted 123 g/km of CO2.

Facelift of 2023

Hyundai showed the updated i10 on 27 February 2023, and production of the facelift began in April 2023. Changes included new 15-inch alloys, a redesigned honeycomb grille, LED daytime running lights and integrated folding mirrors. A 4.2-inch instrument display, USB-C sockets and eCall became standard. Lane-keeping assistance and a rear-occupant alert were added, and the forward collision warning now also detects cyclists.

The facelifted N Line has its own bumpers and red accents but no extra power. In April 2024 Motor1 Germany gave its length as 3,675 mm and quoted a German price from €22,190, or €22,440 in its data table.

Safety

Euro NCAP gave the third-generation i10 three stars in 2020. It scored 69 percent for adult occupants, 75 for children, 52 for vulnerable road users and 59 for the assistance systems. The European car has more airbags, standard stability control and a stronger structure than the Indian Grand i10 Nios.

Running costs and reliability

Official fuel economy of the third generation is 49.6 to 55.4 mpg, about 5.1 to 5.7 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 116 to 123 g/km. Carwow notes that the engines are well proven and that the car has little new technology that could fail. Hyundai placed 17th of 32 brands in the 2024 Driver Power survey.
