The GAC Trumpchi GS4 Coupe is a fastback version of the second-generation Trumpchi GS4, a compact SUV from GAC Group, the state-owned carmaker of Guangzhou. It went on sale in China on 20 May 2020 in two versions. The Coupe uses the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine of the regular GS4, but with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox instead of a six-speed automatic. It was built from 2019 to 2023, was sold mainly in China, and has no European price list.
GAC, short for Guangzhou Automobile Group, traces its roots to the Tongsheng machining plant founded in 1948 and became a joint-stock company in 2005. Many drivers know the group for its joint ventures. GAC Honda has built cars since 1999 and GAC Toyota was founded in 2004; there were also ventures with Fiat and Mitsubishi. Its own brand, Trumpchi, was launched in December 2010, followed by the electric brands Aion and Hyptec. GAC listed in Hong Kong on 30 August 2010 and in Shanghai in 2012, and its sales peaked at 886,508 vehicles in 2023.

The GS4 family
The Coupe is best understood as part of the GS4 family. The first generation, code-named A28, was previewed at the 2015 North American International Auto Show and went on sale after its debut at Auto Shanghai in April 2015. It was based on the platform of the GA3S saloon and sat between the GS3 and GS5. It was offered with a 46 kWh electric version from 2016 and a plug-in hybrid with 58 km of electric range. A facelift in June 2018 brought new bumpers, wheels and a new dashboard, and GAC Motor showed the GS4 at the Paris Motor Show in 2018.
The second-generation GS4 debuted in September 2019 and went on sale in China in November 2019. Its base engine is a 1.5-litre turbo with 265 Nm and a six-speed Aisin automatic. A plug-in hybrid followed in April 2020, with a 13 kWh CATL battery and 61 km of electric range on the NEDC cycle. The Coupe arrived a month later, in May 2020. A facelift of the regular model in 2021 was renamed GS4 Plus.

Electric and plug-in versions of the GS4
The Coupe itself was a petrol car, but the GS4 family was one of GAC's first steps towards electrification. The first-generation GS4 EV was shown at the 2015 Guangzhou show and sold from the second half of 2016. It had a 46 kWh lithium-ion battery, 240 km of range, a top speed of 120 km/h and 0–100 km/h in under 11 seconds. A full charge took 12 hours on a 220-volt supply, or about 30 minutes to 80 % on a fast charger.
The first plug-in hybrid paired a 1.5-litre engine of 71 kW and 120 Nm with a 130 kW, 300 Nm electric motor. It covered 58 km on electricity and more than 600 km in total. The same system was also sold as the GAC-Mitsubishi Eupheme PHEV and the GAC Honda Shirui PHEV, an example of how GAC shared technology across its joint ventures. At the 2017 Detroit show GAC said the GS4 would undercut the Toyota RAV4 in North America, but the sources show no US launch.

Design and dimensions
The Coupe takes the body of the second-generation GS4 and gives it a sloping fastback roofline, the style that carmakers call an SUV coupé. MarkLines gives its length as 4,577 mm, its width as 1,873 mm and its height as 1,646 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm. That makes it 65 mm longer and 27 mm lower than the Lynk & Co 01, another Chinese compact SUV of the same period (4,512 mm long and 1,673 mm high), and 54 mm shorter in the wheelbase. The compare section shows how such figures sit against other models. For readers who want to compare those measurements with a familiar car, the size comparison tool shows two models side by side.

Engine and gearbox
According to Wikipedia EN, the Coupe uses the same engine as the regular GS4 but pairs it with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox instead of the six-speed automatic. The second-generation GS4's 1.5-litre turbo (engine code 4A15J1) is listed with 124 kW (169 PS) and 265 Nm. Wikipedia's engine table for the GS4 family also lists other units, such as a 2.0-litre turbo (4B20J1) with 185 kW (252 PS). It does not say which of them went into the Coupe, so only the shared 1.5-litre is named here.
Fuel consumption, acceleration and top speed for the Coupe are not given in the sources used here. The power converter can turn the kW figures into PS and hp for comparison with other cars.

Versions and prices
The GS4 Coupe was launched in two versions in China in May 2020. Prices were set for the Chinese market only. The sources show no European price list and no European sales, so no euro price is given here, and the car was not tested by Euro NCAP.
GAC in Europe and the GAC catalogue
Many drivers know GAC indirectly, through its joint ventures with Honda and Toyota and the earlier one with Fiat. The GS4 itself was shown under the GAC Motor name at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The GS4 Coupe's catalogue entry and the brand's other material are on the GAC brand page.
The group's own brands grew in importance in the 2020s. Aion, founded as GAC New Energy in 2017 and renamed in November 2020, builds electric cars, and Hyptec was created in 2022. In November 2024 GAC moved its headquarters to Panyu Auto City in Guangzhou. Group sales fell to 789,475 vehicles in 2024 and 613,563 in 2025.

Who the GS4 Coupe suits
The GS4 Coupe was a Chinese-market model, so buyers in Europe will meet it only as a private import. In that case, spare parts and servicing need to be checked in advance, since there is no official dealer network for the car in the EU. For Chinese buyers it offered the GS4's mechanicals with a sloping roofline and a dual-clutch gearbox instead of the conventional automatic.
