Which A6 e-tron to choose
Our verdict · Felix Hartmann
The Sportback performance is the most balanced choice: rear-wheel drive, the 100 kWh battery, 756 km WLTP and 270 kW charging. The quattro makes sense for winter roads and towing, and the S6 e-tron for drivers who want 370 kW. The base car with the 83 kWh battery suits buyers who rarely drive more than 400 km in a day.
Alternatives within the group are the Q6 e-tron, the SUV sibling on PPE, and the electric Porsche Macan; outside it, the main rivals are the BMW i5 and the Mercedes-Benz EQE. The earlier electric SUV of the brand is described in the Audi e-tron article. All current Audi models are listed in the Audi catalogue.
The Audi A6 e-tron is the battery-electric executive car that Audi sells alongside the combustion A6, as a Sportback liftback and as an Avant estate. It was revealed on 31 July 2024, is built in Ingolstadt on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and uses an 800-volt system. Outputs range from 210 kW in the base car to 370 kW in the S6 e-tron, and the Sportback performance reaches up to 756 km on the WLTP cycle.
In short
- Two batteries: 83 kWh gross (75.8 kWh net) and 100 kWh gross (94.9 kWh net).
- DC charging at up to 225 or 270 kW, 10–80 % in about 21 minutes.
- Sportback drag coefficient 0.21, which Audi called best in class at launch; Avant 0.24.
- German list prices in 2026 start at €62,800 for the Sportback with the smaller battery.

From the 2021 concept to production
Audi first showed the idea as the A6 e-tron concept at Auto Shanghai in 2021, a Sportback with 22-inch wheels and a 100 kWh battery, later also displayed at Milan Design Week. The production Sportback and Avant were unveiled together on 31 July 2024, and pre-orders opened in September. Both are made in Ingolstadt.
The car is the low-floor counterpart of the Q6 e-tron SUV on the same PPE platform, and Wikipedia lists the electric Porsche Macan as a related model. For Audi it also settled a naming question: the combustion saloon and Avant launched in 2025 kept the A6 name, while the electric car carries the e-tron suffix. The story of the combustion line from C4 to C9 is told in the Audi A6 generations overview.

Batteries, range and charging
Two packs are offered. The smaller one has ten modules and 83 kWh gross, 75.8 kWh usable; the larger one twelve modules with 180 cells and 100 kWh gross, 94.9 kWh usable. Both run at 800 volts, which allows high charging power at a lower current.
| Version | Battery (net) | WLTP Sportback | WLTP Avant | Peak DC |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A6 e-tron | 75.8 kWh | up to 627 km | 598 km | 225 kW |
| A6 e-tron performance | 94.9 kWh | up to 756 km (750 km per Wikipedia) | 720 km | 270 kW |
| A6 e-tron quattro | 94.9 kWh | up to 716 km | 670–685 km | 270 kW |
| S6 e-tron | 94.9 kWh | up to 675 km | 640 km | 270 kW |
Audi quotes 10 to 80 per cent in 21 minutes. On the large battery that is roughly 66 kWh in a third of an hour, worth around 500 km of WLTP range for the Sportback performance. On alternating current the car takes 11 kW, with 22 kW announced as an option after launch. The Avant gives up about 30–40 km against the Sportback, in line with its higher drag coefficient of 0.24.
Versions and performance
| Version | Drive | Power (launch control) | Torque | 0–100 km/h | Top speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A6 e-tron | RWD | 210 kW / 286 PS (240 kW) | 435 Nm | 7.0 s (6.0 s) | 210 km/h |
| A6 e-tron performance | RWD | 270 kW / 367 PS (280 kW) | 565 Nm | 5.4 s | 210 km/h |
| A6 e-tron quattro | AWD | 315 kW / 428 PS (340 kW) | 855 Nm | 4.7 s (4.5 s) | 210 km/h |
| S6 e-tron | AWD | 370 kW / 503 PS | — | 3.9 s | 240 km/h |
All versions except the S6 are limited to 210 km/h. The rear-wheel-drive performance is the range champion, while the quattro adds a front motor and a large torque gain to 855 Nm. The S6 e-tron is the sporting version; the S6 line from the five-cylinder turbo to the electric car is covered in the Audi S6 history.

Design, size and practicality
At 4,928 mm the A6 e-tron is close to its combustion sister in length. The Sportback is 1,465–1,487 mm tall, the Avant 1,504–1,525 mm. The Sportback boot holds 502 litres and grows to 1,330 litres when the rear backrests are down; a small 27-litre compartment sits under the bonnet.
carwow.de rated the Sportback 8 out of 10 and praised its range, short charging times, efficient motors, handling and comfort. Its criticisms were limited rear headroom under the sloping roof, the high weight and price, and the absence of rear-wheel steering even as an option. Buyers who carry tall passengers in the back may prefer the Avant, which is about 40 mm taller.
Safety and Euro NCAP
Euro NCAP tested the A6 e-tron Avant performance with rear-wheel drive in 2025. Adults were protected to 92 per cent and children to 91 per cent of the maximum score. Vulnerable road users reached 75 per cent and the safety assistance systems 80 per cent. ANCAP adopted the same crash results for Australia.
A6L e-tron: the long saloon for China
For China, FAW-Audi builds a long-wheelbase saloon in Changchun, revealed at Auto Shanghai 2025. It is 5,073 mm long with a 3,076 mm wheelbase, 130 mm more than the European car. The dual-motor version has 270 kW and a 95.0 kWh battery with 720 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle; a rear-wheel-drive version uses a 106.7 kWh battery for 785 km CLTC. CLTC figures are noticeably more generous than WLTP and should not be compared directly.
