Morris Motors was a British car maker founded by William Richard Morris, later Lord Nuffield, who started WRM Motors in 1912. In 1913 a factory opened at Cowley, Oxford, where the first car, the two-seat Morris Oxford "Bullnose", was assembled from bought-in parts. Morris Motors Limited was formed in 1919 to take over the business.
The company grew into the Nuffield Organisation. The first Morris Minor, designed by Leonard Lord, appeared in 1928, and in 1948 Alec Issigonis created a new Morris Minor. In 1952 the Nuffield Organisation merged with Austin to form the British Motor Corporation (BMC), and in 1959 BMC launched the Morris Mini Minor, designed by Issigonis. In 1968 BMC's group merged with Leyland to form British Leyland. The Morris Ital, the last Morris-badged car, ended production in 1984, and the brand was abandoned by 1987.
