About Daewoo
Daewoo Motor was the car division of the South Korean Daewoo Group. It took the Daewoo name in 1983, when Saehan Motor – a joint venture with General Motors – was renamed (Daewoo bought out GM's share in 1992), and built models such as the LeMans, Espero, Nexia, Lanos, Nubira, Leganza and the Italdesign-styled Matiz.
In the 1990s Daewoo set up car plants abroad, among them in Uzbekistan, Poland and Ukraine. After the group collapsed in 1999, GM took over most of the car business in 2002 as GM Daewoo (GM Korea from 2011), and several Daewoo designs lived on under the Chevrolet, Ravon and ZAZ names.
