Best 7-seater cars and SUVs 2026: seven picks compared
A good 7-seater has to do more than squeeze two extra seats into the boot. The third row should be usable, there should still be room for some luggage with every seat in place, and the car should tow and cruise without strain. This list covers seven-seat SUVs and one people carrier on sale new in Europe in 2026, from family crossovers to large off-roaders.
Length and wheelbase are the best quick guide to third-row space. The longer the wheelbase, the more room there usually is behind the second row. Our catalogue lists both for every car below, so the table starts with them.

How we chose
Selection. We looked at cars with a third seat row that are sold new in Europe in 2026 and have a published model page on 1cars. The Kia Carnival was left out because it is not currently listed for the German market, and the Mitsubishi Outlander because we could not confirm a seven-seat version in its current European range.
Data sources. Generation years and Euro NCAP stars with their test year come from the 1cars catalogue; the Santa Fe and Tayron ratings were checked against Hyundai's press release and the Euro NCAP result page. Dimensions, braked towing limits, WLTP consumption, warranty terms and German list prices come from the ADAC Autokatalog pages for the named versions (accessed October 2026). Boot volumes behind the third row are given only where a manufacturer figure or Wikipedia states which seat configuration they refer to. Multivan figures come from English-language Wikipedia.
Ranking. The order is editorial and weighs third-row space, luggage room, safety, towing and price. It is not a test score. Prices are German list prices with the year the version went on sale, and they differ in other markets. More data for each model is on its model page, for example the Volkswagen Tayron and the Volkswagen Multivan T7.
Frequently asked questions
Which 7-seater has the most room in the third row?
Of the cars here, the Volkswagen Multivan: a tall van-based body with sliding doors, three rows and 469 litres of luggage space with all seats in place. Among the SUVs, the Volvo XC90 has the longest wheelbase at 2,984 mm.
Is a 7-seat SUV or an MPV better for a big family?
An MPV such as the Multivan offers easier access through sliding doors and more space behind the third row. A seven-seat SUV is usually shorter, tows more and is easier to park, but its third row is often best for children.
Which 7-seater is best for towing?
The Land Rover Discovery D250 may tow 3,500 kg braked and the Volvo XC90 B5 2,400 kg. The Peugeot 5008 hybrid (1,000 kg) and Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid (1,110 kg) are limited, so check the figure for the exact version before buying.
How much luggage fits with all seven seats in use?
Not much in most SUVs: 340 litres in the Škoda Kodiaq, 348 litres in the Peugeot 5008 and 302 litres in the Volvo XC90, according to the figures we checked. The Multivan holds 469 litres.
Are seven seats standard?
In the Peugeot 5008, Volvo XC90 and Multivan, yes. In the Kodiaq, Tayron, Santa Fe and Discovery, the third row is an option or tied to certain versions, so check the specification before you order.
