On the day when all schoolchildren went to school on the first day, September 1, 2016, the Czech automobile company in the German city of Berlin officially demonstrated its new medium-size off-road vehicle Skoda Kodiak. The car was publicly presented in October at the stand of the International Paris Motor Show.
The car was named after one of the brown bears. The new crossover took a niche one step above Yeti and was able to make a name for itself with a catchy appearance and a huge interior space, and was able to get 5 turbocharged engines. The whole model range is Skoda.
The appearance of the new Czech SUV Skoda Kodiak 2016 was carried out in a strict manner, but it did not affect its style and originality. Skoda’s design composition did not go far from the very initial lines and proportions that were laid down in the VisionS concept car, so the serial model turned out to be very close to the prototype.
The front part of the novelty is distinguished by a radiator grille, though not too big, but noticeable, where there are twin vertical strips that form a three-dimensional effect. The narrow headlamps attached to the sides are complemented by bright LED ribbons of running lights and slightly below the individual compact light blocks.
The massive air intake has spread across the entire width of the bumper, adding to the vehicle’s thoroughness and reliability. The car itself has a body overhang, in front of it is 898 mm, and behind it is 1 009 mm. There is also a drop-down roof line, a compact rear part and square wheel arches in which light alloy rollers from 17 to 19 inches can be installed.
The exterior of the wheels was designed specifically for Kodiaq. Standard exterior rearview mirrors and door handles are available as standard. The hood, together with the body panels, side doors, impress with the simplicity of the lines and at the same time the elegance of the shapes.
The stylish rails complement the car’s design perfectly, although they do not stand out much. There are beautiful stampings on the doors, so the car can not be called boring. The rear part of the Kodiak Skoda attracts with the presence of faceted, as if pieces of rock crystal, rear lamps having a C-shaped configuration.
According to some sources, the LED filling on the rear lights will be installed even in the basic equipment of the machine. In addition to optics, it is possible to note the presence of an impressive rectangular luggage compartment door, which provides easy access to the trunk, and the rear bumper, which received an uncomplicated form. The rear door has a rather unusual shape, because it is “cut” by narrow headlights.
The development department decided to equip the new car as tightly as possible. But it did not affect the price policy very much, because the price is quite affordable, especially if you compare the car with your classmates. And it seems that such a decision has been successful. Looking at the interior of Kodiak 2017-2018, you feel German pedantry. Interior decoration was carried out in a strict style.
In front of the driver was placed a comfortable dashboard and a pleasant to the touch steering wheel with heating function. Different controls with different functions are arranged logically, intuitively and next to each other, there are no claims on the assembly. The interior was finished with high quality materials.
The front seats have good lateral support. Both in the base and for extra money, the machine has a variety of technical innovations, as make using the crossover more convenient, pleasant, easy and safe. There will be a choice of entertainment systems with touchscreen display, navigation system, wireless communication, all-round visibility cameras and other options.

In addition, it is possible to set up a 2- or 3-zone climate control, electric adjustment of seats in front with the option of memory, ventilation and heating, electronic assistants for trailer transportation, various safety systems, adaptive cruise control, traffic signs control systems and driver fatigue control.

The volume of the luggage compartment of the Kodiac Skoda is equal to a solid 720 liters, provided that the rear two seats are folded together. It is not superfluous to note that the 2nd row of seats can move horizontally by 18 cm.
If you fold it up too, you will have a luggage compartment with 2,065 litres of storage space. According to the company representatives, the maximum length of the transported cargo is 2.8 meters, which is very impressive.
Therefore, the luggage compartment of Skoda Kodiak 2017-2018 is actually huge, as well as the cabin itself. As a separate option, you can set the function of opening the luggage compartment by waving your foot in the rear bumper zone.
For Skoda Kodiak 2017-2018 provides an abundance of power units. The first is the most “incapable” 1.4-liter gasoline engine TFI EA211, with a lightweight block of cylinders made of aluminum. It is equipped with a turbine, optimized direct injection and 16-valve structure of gas distribution mechanism. It can be installed in two levels of pumping, 125 and 150 horses.
The junior version works with the alternativeless 6-speed manual gearbox and drive on the front wheels. The senior motor is synchronized with the 6-range DSG “robot” and all-wheel drive system. This weapon allows you to reach the crossover mark of 100 km/h in 9.4 – 10.7 seconds, and the maximum speed of 190-198 km/h. Consumption of these engines is no more than 6.0 – 7.1 liters per 100 kilometers in mixed mode.
Next comes a 2.0-litre TSI gasoline engine with an aluminium cylinder block exhaust manifold, combined power supply, turbine and 2-axis phase rotators. It already produces about 180 horsepower.
It transmits torque to the wheels via a 7-stage DSG and all-wheel drive system. 7.8 seconds is exactly how long it will take for the machine to reach the 100 km/h mark and the maximum speed is 206 km/h. It consumes about 7.3-liter of gasoline in a mixed cycle.
There are also diesel engines. For example, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with direct Common Rail supply and a 16-valve gas distribution mechanism. The starting version develops 150 horses, and a more powerful variation of 190 horses. The 150 hp engine is equipped with a 6-stage mechanical gearbox, or 7-range “robot” with front or all-wheel drive. The 190 hp model is already available only with an automatic box and all-wheel drive system.
The all-wheel drive system is implemented on the Kodiak using a standard crossover system – the Haldex 5th generation electronically controlled hydraulic multi-disc clutch supplies power to the rear wheels. When the conditions are favourable, 100% of the torque is applied in front of the vehicle, and when the road conditions change, the traction will be automatically distributed between the axles.
Despite the fact that the machine has a four-wheel drive system and there is a decent height of ground clearance, off-road characteristics of the machine is not the best plan. For example, the angles of entry and exit at the Czech crossover are no more than 22 and 23 degrees.
The Skoda Kodiaq is based on the MQB front drive base and independent suspension on all axles with McPherson racks in front and a 4-lever system with transverse stabilizers at the rear. The maximum variant of the novelty has adaptive suspension Dynamic Classis Control with several variations of functioning – Normal, Sport and Comfort (and all-wheel drive versions have also off-road mode). In a body design of the crossover there is an abundance of use of high-strength grades of steel.
The steering of the car is carried out by means of the electric amplifier with progressive characteristics. Brake system works with disc brakes on all wheels, where the front has a ventilation function. There is also a wide range of electronic locks such as ABS, EBD and BAS.
Czech new crossover Skoda Kodiak 2017-2018 has a length of 4697 mm, a width of 1882 mm (together with mirrors 2087 mm), it is equal to a height of 1676 mm. The wheelbase is at 2791 mm. The height of the ground clearance will be 190 mm. Manufacturers assure that the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the novelty will be only 0.33 Cx.
Weighs the body of Skoda Kodiak 2017-2018 in running order, depending on which engine, gearbox, type of drive and whether the availability of auxiliary equipment, from 1 452 kg – 1640 kg. The vehicle can tow a trailer with GVW not exceeding 2500 kg.

Implementation of the new Czech crossover with a German slope Skoda Kodiak 2017-2018 in the Russian Federation will begin in the summer of next 2017, but more precise dates and costs together with the kits are not specified yet. Top-of-the-range equipment will include sports seats, all-round visibility cameras, a more advanced infotainment system, LED headlights, sign recognition, automatic braking, automatic parking and a bunch of other modern chips.

Summing up the results of Skoda Kodiaq 2017-2018, it is clear that without the Germans, there is still a need. Although the car is not as expensive as, say, Volkswagen or BMW. The Czech crossover has a pleasant, modern and stylish appearance, which will allow it to differ in the traffic flow. The design staff worked for fame, there is nothing superfluous, and the car is not too overloaded.
The front part of the car flaunts with its optics, massive radiator grille and air intake. On the side you can find large wheel arches with no less massive alloy wheels, the design of which was developed especially for Kodiak. The rear part has nothing supernatural except the unusual flashlights. Small overhangs to the SUV.
Inside the car you won’t find luxury and sophistication, but everything is qualitatively, pleasantly and locally. Adjustment at a decent level. Pleasantly surprised by the convenient dashboard and the central console, on which there is a color screen. Everything is simple, but in its place and intuitively understandable. The front seats are quite comfortable and have a good side support.
On the second row there is a lot of free space and there can sit three people, but more comfort will be felt by people sitting on the sides. The third row can even accommodate a couple of adults. The luggage compartment has a good volume reserve, which can be increased if necessary, while adding the third row, and the back of the second row of seats.
Powertrains, though not like sports cars, but perform their tasks well and almost 2-ton car moves fast on the road. It is worth noting a small amount of fuel consumption. All-wheel drive system will make you feel more confident on the road, especially when its quality suffers.
They have not forgotten in the company about introduction of various systems and assistants which help the driver to operate the car. In its confident place, providing a proper level of safety not only for the driver, but also for the passengers sitting next to him. Even the basic equipment has a decent list of options, which is very appropriate. I hope that this crossover of the Kodiak Skoda 2017-2018 will win the hearts of amateurs and withstand competition with other classmates.
