About Saab
Saab Automobile grew out of the Swedish aircraft maker Saab. Its first car, the aerodynamic, front-wheel-drive Saab 92, went into production in 1949 in Trollhättan.
Saab became known for the rally-winning 96, the 99 Turbo of 1978, which brought turbocharging to everyday cars, and the 900, 9000, 9-3 and 9-5. General Motors bought half of Saab in 1990 and the rest in 2000; Spyker took over in 2010, and Saab Automobile went bankrupt in December 2011.
