Which GV60 to buy

Our verdict · Felix Hartmann

  • Best all-rounder: the facelifted rear-wheel-drive Pure, with 84 kWh, 561 km WLTP range and the lowest price at EUR 53,500.
  • For bad weather and towing: the 234 kW all-wheel-drive version.
  • For performance: the 360 kW Luxury AWD (formerly Sport Plus), which reaches 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds; the Magma is for drivers who want a genuine performance car.
  • Used: a 2022-2025 car with the 77.4 kWh battery is cheaper, but range is about 45 km shorter than the facelift's.

The Genesis GV60 is a compact electric crossover with a sloping, coupe-like roofline and the first Genesis built on Hyundai's dedicated E-GMP platform, the same base as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. It is built at Ulsan in South Korea and has been on sale since September 2021; Germany got it in 2022. A 2025 facelift brought an 84 kWh battery and up to 561 km of WLTP range, and the 478 kW GV60 Magma followed in 2026.

In short

  • One generation (code JW) since 2021, facelifted in 2025; the high-performance Magma version arrived in 2026.
  • Power from 168 kW (229 PS) with rear-wheel drive to 360 kW (490 PS) in Boost mode, and 478 kW in the Magma.
  • Euro NCAP: five stars (2022).
  • German prices (ADAC, 2026) start at EUR 53,500 for the rear-wheel-drive Pure.

Genesis is Hyundai's premium brand, and the GV60 was its first model designed purely as an electric car. Its exterior was led by Jung Myung-jin. Other models of the brand are listed on our Genesis brand page.

Generations and model history

Genesis unveiled the GV60 on 19 August 2021 and gave the global release on 30 September 2021. It was the first car to wear the new Genesis emblem with a guilloche pattern, and it uses a clamshell bonnet that covers the whole front end without panel joints.

The facelift was announced on 6 January 2025 and launched in South Korea on 6 March 2025; ADAC lists it in Germany from September 2025. It has new headlights using Micro Lens Array technology, body-coloured side skirts and wheel arches, a three-spoke steering wheel and a single 27-inch display that merges the instrument cluster and central screen. The body grew from 4,515 to 4,545 mm and the drag coefficient is 0.28.

Motors, batteries and performance

All GV60s use permanent magnet synchronous motors and a single-speed reduction gear. Until 2025 the battery was 77.4 kWh; the facelift raised it to 84 kWh.

Version Years Power Torque 0-100 km/h Top speed WLTP range
RWD 2021-2025 168 kW (229 PS) 350 Nm 7.8 s 185 km/h 516 km

The Boost button on the most powerful version raises output for short bursts. The Magma sits 20 mm lower, has wider wings, 21-inch forged wheels and a rear wing, and its "Virtual Gear Shift" changes motor output and torque to simulate gearchanges, with an artificial 9,000 rpm redline and a choice of three synthetic engine sounds. Genesis announced it on 20 November 2025, and ADAC lists it in Germany from 2026.

Charging

The 800-volt system is the GV60's strongest technical argument. Genesis quotes 10-80% in 18 minutes at a 350 kW charger. ADAC gives a peak DC rate of 240 kW for the facelifted car and 11 kW for AC charging, which takes about 7.5 hours from empty. The car can also power external devices through its 3.6 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) function and tow 1,600 kg braked.

Dimensions, space and boot

Parameter Metric Imperial
Length (2021-2025 / from 2025) 4,515 / 4,545 mm 177.8 / 178.9 in
Width 1,890 mm 74.4 in
Height 1,580 mm 62.2 in
Wheelbase 2,900 mm 114.2 in
Kerb weight 1,975-2,190 kg 4,354-4,828 lb
Boot, ADAC figure (seats up / folded) 680 / 1,460 l 24.0 / 51.6 cu ft
Front compartment 53 l 1.9 cu ft
Towing capacity (braked) 1,600 kg 3,527 lb

The 2,900 mm wheelbase is unusually long for a 4.5-metre car, which is typical of E-GMP models and gives a flat floor and generous rear legroom. To see how the GV60 compares in size with your current car, use our size comparison tool.

Energy consumption and running costs

WLTP consumption is 16.7 kWh/100 km for the facelifted rear-wheel-drive car and 19.1 kWh/100 km for the 360 kW Sport Plus. In ADAC's Ecotest the Sport Plus used 23.9 kWh/100 km. Genesis gives a five-year vehicle warranty in Germany, together with a five-year Europe-wide mobility guarantee (ADAC).

Trims, technology and prices

Face Connect is the GV60's signature feature: a camera recognises the driver's face to unlock the doors and set the seat, steering wheel, mirrors and infotainment. A smartphone digital key can open and start the car. In Germany the line-up was renamed in June 2026.

Version (Germany, ADAC) Power List price
GV60 (03/2024-06/2025) 168 kW (229 PS) EUR 54,680
GV60 Sport AWD (06/2022-09/2025) 234 kW (318 PS) EUR 70,470
GV60 Sport Plus AWD (06/2022-09/2025) 360 kW (490 PS) EUR 80,040
GV60 Pure (from 06/2026) 168 kW (229 PS) EUR 53,500
GV60 Premium AWD (from 06/2026) 234 kW (318 PS) EUR 63,400
GV60 Luxury AWD (from 06/2026) 360 kW (490 PS) EUR 73,300

The facelift therefore cut the price of the most powerful version by about EUR 6,700 compared with the old Sport Plus.

Safety: Euro NCAP

Euro NCAP tested the GV60 in 2022 and gave it five stars: 89% for adult occupant protection, 87% for child occupants, 63% for vulnerable road users and 88% for safety assist. The pedestrian score is the weakest part of the result. ANCAP adopted the rating in Australia. Compare the scores with other premium SUVs on our safety page.

Reliability and known issues

There is no long-term reliability data for the GV60 in European breakdown statistics, partly because volumes are small: Genesis sold 11,031 GV60s worldwide in 2022, 10,145 in 2023 and 4,286 in 2024. The car shares its battery and motor technology with the far more common Ioniq 5 and EV6, which makes parts and expertise easier to find. As with any car sold in small numbers, check how close the nearest Genesis service point is before buying.
