Which Grecale to buy: verdict
Our verdict · Felix Hartmann
The four-cylinder mild hybrid is the sensible choice: 221 kW, 5.6 seconds to 100 km/h and the full 535-litre boot, at a price well below the Folgore. The Trofeo is the version that justifies the Maserati badge on the road, with 390 kW from a V6 related to the MC20's. The Folgore is the quickest to recommend for buyers with home charging, but it weighs 2,480 kg and its 150 kW DC peak is modest for a car at this price. Whichever version you pick, factor in the lack of a Euro NCAP rating and the short three-year warranty.
The Maserati Grecale is a mid-size luxury SUV built at the Cassino plant in Lazio, Italy, since March 2022. It is the smaller sibling of the Levante, shares the Giorgio platform with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and is offered with a four-cylinder mild hybrid, a twin-turbo V6 or a fully electric drive. Power ranges from 221 kW (300 PS) in the entry version to 410 kW (558 PS) in the electric Grecale Folgore.
In short

- In Germany the 2026 Grecale starts at EUR 83,512 and the Folgore at EUR 109,230 (ADAC).

Maserati Grecale at a glance: segment, body and where it is built
The Grecale is a five-door SUV, 4,846 mm long, with all-wheel drive on every version. Maserati announced the name at the unveiling of the MC20 in 2020 and showed the production car in March 2022. Like the Stelvio and the fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee it uses Stellantis' Giorgio architecture, and it is assembled at the Cassino plant in Piedimonte San Germano, Lazio.
The name follows Maserati's tradition of naming cars after winds: the Grecale is a north-easterly Mediterranean wind, as are the Ghibli and the Levante. In the range it sits between the MC20 sports car and the larger Levante SUV.
Grecale generations and versions
So far there is one generation. The range was built around three combustion versions and the electric Folgore, and it has since been reshaped by market: the GT was dropped in North America for 2026, where a Modena V6 with 287 kW was added instead, while in Germany ADAC lists a single 221 kW combustion version from January 2026.
| Generation | Code | Years | Body styles | Engines | Power (hp / kW) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grecale (I) | M182 | since 2022 | 5-door SUV | 2.0 turbo mild hybrid, 3.0 V6 twin-turbo, dual-motor electric | 221-410 kW (300-558 PS) |
Engines, transmissions and performance
| Version | Engine | Power | Torque | 0-100 km/h | Top speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GT | 2.0 turbo I4, 48 V mild hybrid | 221 kW (300 PS) | 450 Nm | 5.6 s | 240 km/h |
| Modena | 2.0 turbo I4, 48 V mild hybrid | 243 kW (330 PS) | 450 Nm | 5.3 s | - |
| Modena V6 (North America, 2026) | 3.0 Nettuno V6 twin-turbo | 287 kW (390 PS) | 522 Nm | 5.0 s | 257 km/h |
| Trofeo | 3.0 Nettuno V6 twin-turbo | 390 kW (530 PS) | 620 Nm | 3.8 s | 285 km/h |
| Folgore | two electric motors | 410 kW (558 PS) | 820 Nm | 4.1 s | 220 km/h |
The combustion versions use an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The Trofeo's V6 is a version of the Nettuno engine first used in the MC20, and with 3.8 seconds to 100 km/h it is the fastest Grecale. The Folgore has one permanent-magnet motor on each axle, each rated at 205 kW (279 PS).
The electric Grecale uses a 400-volt battery of 105 kWh gross and 98 kWh net. ADAC lists 20.9 kWh/100 km and a WLTP range of 580 km, while Maserati's launch figure quoted in Wikipedia is 500 km. It charges at up to 150 kW DC (10-80% in 37 minutes, ADAC) and 22 kW AC, which allows a full charge in about 270 minutes.

| 0-100 km/h / top speed | 5.6 s / 240 km/h | 149 mph |
The Folgore is slightly different: 4,865 mm long, 1,651 mm high, with a 2,903 mm wheelbase and a kerb weight of 2,480 kg, about 600 kg more than the four-cylinder. ADAC lists the same 535-litre boot for both, and a braked towing capacity of 1,800 kg for the electric version. To see how the Grecale's footprint compares with a Stelvio or an X3, use the size comparison tool.
Fuel economy and running costs
The 2026 four-cylinder is rated at 8.8 l/100 km (26.7 mpg US) and 199 g/km of CO2 in the WLTP cycle. The Folgore's official figure is 20.9 kWh/100 km. ADAC lists a three-year vehicle, paint and rust warranty plus a three-year Europe-wide mobility guarantee.
Running costs are where the Grecale feels its badge. The Car Expert, a British review site, rates its warranty and five-year servicing costs among the weakest in the class and notes that Maserati's ownership scores pull down the overall rating. For a full calculation with depreciation, insurance and servicing, use the cost of ownership calculator.
Trims and equipment
At launch Maserati used the names GT, Modena and Trofeo for the three combustion versions, with the Folgore as the electric model. ADAC's German catalogue shows how the line-up has changed: the GT was listed from August 2022, and from January 2026 there is one combustion version at EUR 83,512, with 221 kW (301 PS) and a detachable tow bar as a EUR 1,131 option. The Folgore has been listed since January 2024 at EUR 109,230.
Safety ratings
The Grecale has not been tested by Euro NCAP. The Car Expert confirmed this status in March 2026. Maserati's Ghibli saloon went through Euro NCAP's tests in late 2013 and achieved five stars, but that result does not carry over to the SUV. Buyers who want an independent crash rating in this class will find tested alternatives on our safety ratings page.
Reliability and known issues
No reliability data has been published for the Grecale yet; The Car Expert states that it does not have any. The model is still in its first production cycle, and there are no recall figures in the sources used for this article. What can be said is that the platform and the V6 are not new: the Giorgio architecture has been in use since the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, and the Nettuno V6 since the MC20.
Rivals: how the Grecale compares
| Model | Engines | Power (hp) | Boot (l) | Price from (EUR) |

| Maserati Grecale Folgore | electric, 105 kWh | 410 kW (558 PS) | 535 | 109,230 (DE, 2024) |
| BMW X3 20 xDrive (G45) | 2.0 turbo mild hybrid | 153 kW (208 PS) | 570 | 60,300 (DE, 2024) |
Figures are from the ADAC catalogue. The Car Expert names the Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace and BMW X3 as the main rivals, and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the closest technical relative. The Grecale is more expensive than the BMW but also considerably more powerful in base form.
