Which A110 to choose
Our verdict · Oleksandr Hnatiuk
- For the lightest, purest car: an early Pure with the 13.1 kg seats and 17-inch wheels; 185 kW is enough for 4.5 seconds to 100 km/h.
- For long trips: the Légende or the later GT, with the comfort seats and the stronger engine in the GT.
- For track days: the A110 S, with its stiffer springs and anti-roll bars, or the R if the budget allows.
- For collectors: the numbered editions, from the 1,955 Première Edition cars to the 110 R Ultime.

Alpine is the sports-car marque of Dieppe, in Normandy. Jean Rédélé, a local garage owner, created it in 1954, and the company was registered on 6 July 1955. Renault bought Alpine in 1973, the same year the original A110 Berlinette won the World Rally Championship; in 1978 the Renault Alpine A442B won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The name went dormant when the last A610 left Dieppe on 7 April 1995, and it came back in 2017 with a new A110. Since 2021 the Renault Formula One team has raced as Alpine, and the road range has added the electric A290.
The Alpine A110 of 2017 is a two-seat, mid-engined coupé with an aluminium body and a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It takes its name and many design cues from the 1960s Berlinette. Output runs from 185 kW (252 PS) in the base car to 257 kW (350 PS) in the R Ultime, and the kerb weight starts at about 1,100 kg. Production of the petrol car in Dieppe is due to end in mid-2026.

From concept car to the Dieppe line
The road back started with show cars. The Celebration concept appeared at Le Mans in 2015, and the Alpine Celebration concept article shows how closely it previewed the production car. The Alpine Vision followed in Monaco in February 2016. Early prototypes from 2013 used Lotus Exige bodies as test mules, according to German Wikipedia; the Lotus is covered in our Lotus Exige guide.
Pre-orders for the Première Edition opened on 7 December 2016 with a €2,000 deposit. Alpine limited this launch version to 1,955 cars and offered it in 13 countries. The production car was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. First deliveries began in autumn 2017, and Première Edition cars reached customers from early 2018.

Engine, gearbox and performance
The engine is a 1.8-litre turbocharged inline-four with direct injection and four valves per cylinder. It comes from the Renault-Nissan alliance and was reworked by Alpine. It sits across the car behind the seats and drives the rear wheels through a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. There is no manual option. The S gains its extra power from 0.4 bar more boost and a redline raised by 400 rpm.

The sources differ on two points. English Wikipedia gives the S a limited 250 km/h, while German Wikipedia lists 260 km/h. For the R, English Wikipedia lists 224 kW (304 PS), while German Wikipedia gives a maximum of 221 kW (300 PS) for the stronger versions. With 185 kW and 1,103 kg, the base car has about 168 kW per tonne; the R reaches about 207 kW per tonne.
Chassis, body and interior
The structure and most body panels are aluminium. The launch Pure saved more with 13.1 kg Sabelt monocoque seats and 17-inch wheels. The Légende had 18-inch wheels, six-way adjustable leather seats and Focal audio. In 2018 the warranty in France was three years or 100,000 km, extendable to five years.
The A110 S, introduced in June 2019, has springs that are 50 % stiffer and anti-roll bars that are 100 % stiffer than the base car. Ride height drops by 4 mm, the tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and the stability control can be switched off fully. An optional carbon roof saves 1.9 kg.
The A110 R was revealed on 4 October 2022. A carbon bonnet, carbon wheels and Sabelt Track seats bring the weight down by 34 kg. It also has adjustable dampers, a ride height lowered by 10 mm, Brembo brakes and a 3D-printed exhaust.

Versions and special editions
For the 2020 model year the range was simplified. The Pure became plain A110, and the Légende was replaced by the A110 GT, which uses the engine of the S. In November 2021 Alpine presented an update with more power, a new infotainment system and an aero package. German Wikipedia dates base-model production in its first form from December 2017 to November 2021.
Limited series became a regular part of the range:
- Première Edition (2017–2018): 1,955 cars with forged wheels, Sabelt sports seats and metallic blue paint as standard.
- Jean Rédélé (May 2022): 100 cars.
- Tour de Corse 75 (June 2022): 150 cars.
- Fernando Alonso edition (October 2022): 32 cars.
- San Remo 73 (orders from March 2023 in France): 200 cars.
- A110 R Ultime (2024): 110 cars, including 15 La Bleue versions.
- Enstone Edition: 300 cars.
The French Gendarmerie took delivery of 26 A110s in April 2022 to replace Renault Mégane RS patrol cars. Eleven A110 S cars were added in 2023, for a fleet of 37.

Motorsport versions
The A110 Cup was revealed in October 2017 as a track-only car with about 199 kW (270 PS), a roll cage and a sequential racing gearbox. Twenty cars ran in the first season of the one-make series. The A110 GT4 followed at the Geneva show in 2018 and won the French FFSA GT Championship and the GT4 European Series. The A110 Rally, homologated in the Group R-GT class, was presented in September 2019. For the Pikes Peak hill climb in June 2023, Alpine and Signatech built a version with about 368 kW (500 PS) and 950 kg.

Production, sales and the end of the petrol A110

France is the largest market: 2,698 of the 4,408 cars sold in 2024 went to French buyers. Germany registered 2,051 cars from the launch to December 2024. French Wikipedia notes that from 2024 production for the European Union was limited to 1,500 cars a year, which kept the A110 outside the new GSR2 safety rules.
In February 2025 Alpine announced that the petrol A110 would end in 2026. In October 2025 the company said that 1,750 more cars would be built, with production ending in mid-2026. The successor will be an electric car on the Alpine Performance Platform with an 800-volt system. An agreement with Lotus to develop the next A110 together was signed in January 2021 and later cancelled. The full story of the brand, from the A106 to the A290, is told in our history of Alpine.
