Alpine is a French sports car brand founded by Jean Rédélé, a garage owner from Dieppe. He created the brand in 1954, and the company was registered in 1955; its early cars used mechanical parts from the Renault 4CV.
The first model, the A106 glass-fibre coupé, was built from 1955 to 1961, followed by the A108. The A110 Berlinette of 1962–1977, built with Renault 8 mechanicals, won the World Rally Championship in 1973. Renault bought Alpine that year, after the oil crisis hit sales. The rear-engined A310 of 1971–1984 was followed by the GTA and the A610, built until 1995. In 1995 the last Alpine left the Dieppe plant, and the brand was dormant until 2017, when the new Alpine A110 revived it. In 2021 the Formula One team became the Alpine F1 Team. In 2024 Alpine launched its first electric car, the A290, and showed the A390. Read more: the history of Alpine. See also Renault.
