Verdict Opinion
The 812 Superfast is the more complete car: more power than any standard Aventador, a smoother dual-clutch gearbox, rear-wheel steering and enough comfort to cross a continent. The Aventador is the more theatrical car, with the mid-engined proportions of a classic Lamborghini, all-wheel-drive traction and, in SVJ form, record-setting circuit pace.
Which one is better depends on whether the car will be used for long journeys or as an occasion.

The Ferrari 812 Superfast and the Lamborghini Aventador share a rare recipe: a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 with no hybrid assistance, something Lamborghini gave up with the Aventador's successor. Both both rev beyond 8,000 rpm and both reach at least 340 km/h, yet they place the engine in different places and drive different wheels.
The Aventador was produced from February 2011 to 2022. That long run took it from the LP 700-4 through the Aventador S and SVJ to the final LP 780-4 Ultimae. About 11,800 were built before the hybrid Revuelto replaced it in 2023. The 812 Superfast arrived in 2017 as the successor to the F12berlinetta and was built until 2024, joined by the open 812 GTS from 2019 and the limited 812 Competizione. Its successor is the 12Cilindri.
812 Superfast vs Aventador: key differences
Layout and drive
The Ferrari is a front-mid-engined grand tourer. Its 6,496 cc F140 GA V12 sits behind the front axle and drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Aventador has its 6,498 cc V12 behind the cabin, a carbon-fibre monocoque and all-wheel drive with a Haldex-supplied system. Its seven-speed ISR gearbox from Graziano is a single-clutch automated manual, so gear changes are more abrupt than in the Ferrari's dual-clutch unit.
Power across the versions
The 812 Superfast and GTS produce 588 kW (800 PS) at 8,500 rpm and 718 Nm, and the 812 Competizione 610 kW (830 PS). The Aventador began with 515 kW (700 PS) at 8,250 rpm and 690 Nm in the LP 700-4. It went to 545 kW (740 PS) in the Aventador S of 2017 and 566 kW (770 PS) in the SVJ. The Ultimae finished at 574 kW (780 PS) and 720 Nm. An SVJ prototype lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:44.97 in July 2018, a production-car record at the time.
Performance and size
Ferrari quotes 2.9 s to 100 km/h and 340 km/h for the 812 Superfast. Lamborghini quotes 2.9 s and 350 km/h for the LP 700-4, and 2.84 s and 354 km/h for the Ultimae. Wikipedia lists a dry weight of 1,525 kg for the 812 and 1,575 kg for the LP 700-4, or 2.6 and 3.1 kg per kW. The Ferrari was the first model from Maranello with electric power steering and uses rear-wheel steering, called Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0. The Aventador is the longer and wider car, 4,780 mm by 2,030 mm, against 4,657 mm by 1,971 mm, while the Ferrari has the longer wheelbase, 2,720 mm against 2,700 mm.
