Saturn was an American car brand founded by General Motors on 7 January 1985 and marketed as "a different kind of car company". It was created to compete with Japanese imports and had its own plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, its own dealer network, separate from other GM brands, and a no-haggle sales approach with fixed prices.
The first cars of the brand, the Saturn S-Series, were built from 1990 as 1991 models and continued until 2002. They used dent-resistant polymer body panels, and Saturn's sales peaked in 1994 at 286,003 vehicles. Later models included the L-Series of 2000–2005, the Ion of 2003–2007, the Vue SUV of 2002–2010, the Sky roadster and Aura saloon of 2007–2010 and the Outlook crossover. A planned sale of Saturn to Penske Automotive collapsed in September 2009, production ended in October 2009, and the last franchises closed on 31 October 2010. See also Chevrolet, Pontiac and Geo.
