Geo was a small-car brand of General Motors, launched in 1989 as a subdivision of Chevrolet to compete with imported cars. Its models came from GM's partners Toyota, Isuzu and Suzuki.
The best known was the Geo Metro, a Suzuki-based small car built in Ontario, Canada. The Prizm, based on Toyota designs, was built at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California, from 1989 to 2002. The Tracker, a Suzuki-based compact SUV, was introduced in 1989, sold as a Geo until 1998 and then as a Chevrolet until 2004. The Storm, based on the Isuzu Impulse, joined in 1990 and was dropped in 1993, and the Spectrum, based on the Isuzu Gemini, was sold as a Geo only in 1989 after earlier Chevrolet sales. The Geo name was dropped in mid-1997, when the brand was merged into Chevrolet, although some models continued with Chevrolet badges. See also Chevrolet, Suzuki and Saturn.
