About Oldsmobile

Oldsmobile was founded by Ransom E. Olds in Lansing, Michigan, in 1897. Its Curved Dash Oldsmobile of 1901 is regarded as the first car built in large numbers, and in 1908 the company joined General Motors.

Within GM, Oldsmobile often introduced new technology: the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission (1940), the Rocket V8 of the 1949 Rocket 88 and the front-wheel-drive Toronado of 1966; the Cutlass was one of America's best-selling cars in the 1970s. GM closed Oldsmobile in 2004.
