The Tank 300 is a compact off-road SUV from Great Wall Motor with a ladder-frame chassis, low-range gearing and locking differentials. It was revealed in July 2020 as the WEY Tank 300. Chinese sales began on 17 December 2020, and in 2021 it became the first model of the separate Tank brand. Engines range from a 167 kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol to a 258 kW hybrid, a diesel and a twin-turbo V6 in the Tank 330. Since 2022 the car has been exported to the Middle East, Australia, South-East Asia, South Africa and Mexico.
Tank is the off-road brand of Great Wall Motor (GWM). The name comes from GWM's platform of the same name, introduced in July 2020 with this car as its first vehicle. At first the car carried the WEY badge. In 2021 GWM decided to sell its off-road models under an independent Tank brand and to position WEY as a brand of urban SUVs; Wikipedia EN dates the decision to March 2021 in one article and April 2021 in another. The range has since grown to the Tank 400 (2023), the Tank 500 (2021) and the large Tank 700 (2024). A Tank 800 was shown at Auto Shanghai in 2021. The history of the parent company is in the article on Great Wall Motor.

From WEY concept to its own brand
GWM showed the car at the Chengdu motor show in July 2020 under the WEY badge, the first vehicle on its new off-road platform. Chinese sales began on 17 December 2020. In April 2021 GWM previewed the Cybertank concept, and the car was renamed simply Tank 300 when Tank became a stand-alone brand.
The basic recipe is that of a traditional off-roader. It has a separate ladder frame, shared with the Great Wall Pao pickup, and four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer box. The front wheels are suspended on double wishbones and the rear on a multi-link coil-spring layout.

The hybrid version uses a small battery of 1.75 kWh and an electric motor of 78 kW and 268 Nm to support the engine. GWM gives 0–100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The Tank 330 with the V6 was offered in limited numbers through online orders in March 2024, and according to Wikipedia EN it sold out in six seconds. In Australia GWM now offers the Hi4-T plug-in hybrid and a 2.4-litre turbodiesel.

Special editions
GWM has sold the car in China in many editions: City, Off-Road, Ranger, Wind Forest Iron Cavalry, Yunliang and Cyberpunk, most of them in several trims. The Cybertank Edition was limited to 3,000 cars. The Yunliang edition, developed with the tuning company Yunliang 4×4, was a run of 300 cars in mid-2021, and a Frontier Edition was announced in June 2022.
At Auto Shanghai in 2025 GWM showed the Hooke Edition prototype, with front and rear differential locks, a solid front axle and a strengthened frame. Its larger engine bay could take a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid, but this remained a suggestion rather than a confirmed production model.
