Clément-Talbot was founded in London in 1902–1903 by the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot and the French industrialist Adolphe Clément-Bayard. In 1919 Darracq bought Clément-Talbot and formed S.T.D. Motors, which grouped Sunbeam, Talbot and Darracq. When S.T.D. collapsed in 1934–1936, Rootes took the London works and Antonio Lago the Paris factory, which built Talbot and Talbot-Lago cars until 1958.

In 1978 PSA Peugeot Citroën bought Chrysler Europe and from 1979 revived the Talbot badge on the former Chrysler and Simca models. The Talbot range included the Alpine and Solara, the Sunbeam, the Samba of 1981–1986, the Tagora of 1981–1983 and the Talbot Horizon, whose production ended in 1987 together with Talbot passenger cars. The Talbot Express van outlived the cars and was built until 1994. Since 2021 the Talbot rights have belonged to Stellantis, formed by the merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler. See also Simca, Sunbeam, Peugeot and Matra.
