Studebaker was an American company from South Bend, Indiana. The brothers Henry and Clement Studebaker started a blacksmith and foundry business there in 1852, making metal parts for freight wagons, and in 1868 they incorporated it as the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company, making wagons, buggies and carriages.

Studebaker entered the car market with electric vehicles in 1902 and with petrol cars in 1904, at first in partnership with Garford; the first petrol cars built entirely by Studebaker went on sale in 1912. The Champion of 1939 became one of its key models. In 1954 the company merged with Packard to form Studebaker-Packard, and the Studebaker Corporation name returned in 1962. Late models included the Lark compact, the Hawk coupés and the Studebaker Avanti of 1962. The South Bend plant built its last car on 20 December 1963, and the Hamilton plant in Ontario, Canada, ended Studebaker car production on 17 March 1966. See also Packard and classic cars.
