Polestar is a Swedish electric car brand with its operational headquarters at Torslanda, outside Gothenburg. It grew out of the racing team Flash Engineering, founded in 1996, which later became Polestar Racing. Volvo Cars acquired the Polestar brand in July 2015, and in 2017 it became a standalone electric performance brand.

The first model, the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid coupé, was unveiled on 17 October 2017 and built in Chengdu, China, from 2019 to 2022. It was followed in 2020 by the Polestar 2, an electric fastback built in Luqiao, China, and in 2024 by the Polestar 3 SUV, made in Chengdu and in Ridgeville, South Carolina, and the Polestar 4 coupé-SUV, made in Ningbo and from 2025 in Busan, South Korea. Polestar shares have traded on Nasdaq since 24 June 2022. The largest shareholder is PSD Investment of Li Shufu, the founder of Geely, followed by Geely Holding and Volvo Cars.
