Caterham Cars is a British maker of lightweight sports cars. In 1973 Graham Nearn bought the rights to continue building the Lotus Seven from Colin Chapman, and the company has built its version of the car ever since. It was based in Caterham, Surrey, until 1987, when it moved to a factory in Dartford, Kent; production moved to a new Dartford site in 2024.
The Caterham Seven, based on the Series 3 Lotus Seven, is the company's core product: a small open two-seater with a front engine, rear-wheel drive and very low weight, offered with many engines and in road and race versions. Other models have been rare, such as the Caterham 21 roadster of 1994, of which 48 were made, and the track-only SP/300.R developed with Lola. Team Lotus acquired Caterham in 2011, forming Caterham Group, and in 2021 the company was bought by the Japanese firm VT Holdings, which still owns it. See also Lotus.
