Audi Picks Georgia for Its First US Factory, Full Output From 2031
Audi will build its first factory in the United States. The Governor of Georgia announced on 24 October 2026 that the brand has chosen the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County. The plant is worth about US$4 billion (2026, about €3.6 billion) and should bring roughly 4,500 jobs and capacity for 200,000 vehicles a year.

Key takeaways
- Location: Middle Georgia Megasite, Peach County, near Interstate 75.
- Investment: about US$4 billion (2026, about €3.6 billion); around 4,500 new jobs.
- Product: premium SUVs designed for North American customers.
- Timeline: site grading in 2027, construction in 2028, full production in 2031.
The plan
According to the Georgia Governor's office, the factory will build premium SUVs designed for and produced in North America. Grading of the 1,474-acre site is due to start in 2027, building work in 2028, and the plant should reach full production in 2031, when it is meant to turn out up to 200,000 units a year. Audi named speed to market, the local workforce, access to customers and an established automotive supply chain as the reasons for the choice. The state's Georgia Quick Start programme will set up a dedicated training centre so that staff can be trained before the plant is finished.
Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner said: "We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America, and Georgia will play a central role in making them a reality." Governor Brian Kemp said the state was "proud that Audi has selected Georgia as the home of their first U.S. manufacturing facility".

Why now
Audi has never had its own assembly plant in the US. It supplies American customers from Europe and from its plant in San José Chiapa, Mexico, which builds the Audi Q5. Since 2025 those imports have faced higher US tariffs, and local production is the most direct way around them.
The decision also reverses the mood of last winter. In December 2025, electrive reported that Audi was likely to drop its plans for a US plant. Ten months later the brand has a site, a timeline and a state partner.
What it means for European buyers
Nothing changes in Europe for now. The Georgia factory is designed for SUVs aimed at North America, and its full output is five years away. The European plants, from Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm to Győr in Hungary and the Volkswagen factory in Zwickau, keep supplying the European market. In the longer run a US plant could shift some export volume away from Europe, but Audi has not said which models will be built in Georgia or whether any will be exported.
