Zastava was a Serbian and Yugoslav car maker based in Kragujevac. Its roots go back to a cannon foundry founded there in 1853. After a cooperation agreement with Fiat, the plant began assembling Fiat models in 1954, starting with the Fiat 1400.

The Zastava 750, nicknamed Fića, was a licence-built Fiat 600 made from 1955 to 1985; about 923,000 were produced. The Fiat 127-based Zastava 102 appeared in 1980 and was sold as the Yugo 45 and later the Zastava Koral. In the 1980s Yugo cars were exported to the United States, where more than 150,000 were sold. The Florida of 1988 was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro. NATO bombed the Kragujevac factory in 1999 during the Kosovo War. In May 2008 Fiat signed an agreement with the Serbian government to take over the plant, forming Fiat Automobili Srbija, and the last Zastava-branded car left the line on 21 November 2008.
