Vector is an American supercar maker created by the designer Gerald "Jerry" Wiegert. His firm Vehicle Design Force was founded in 1971; it was later renamed Vector Aeromotive and eventually became Vector Motors Corporation, based in Wilmington, California.
The first production model was the Vector W8, a wedge-shaped mid-engined coupé built from 1989; only 17 cars were made for sale to the public. In 1993 the Indonesian company MegaTech acquired a controlling interest and moved the business to Jacksonville, Florida, where the M12 went into production in 1995; only 14 had been built by early 1999. In 2007 Vector showed the WX-8 prototype at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and the car was still described as in development in 2018. Wiegert died in January 2021, leaving the company's future uncertain, and its Wilmington facility has since been cleared out. Vector built only small numbers of each model. More fast cars: supercars.
