Reliant was a British car maker founded in 1935 by T. L. Williams, who built the first prototype with E. S. Thompson. The company was based in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and for most of its history it was best known for three-wheeled cars.
The main three-wheelers were the Regal, the Reliant Robin, built from 1973, and the Rialto, a version of the Robin with more luxury equipment. All three had a single wheel at the front. Reliant also made several four-wheeled cars: the Kitten was a four-wheeled Robin whose rights were later sold to India, where it became the Sipani Dolphin, and the Sabre was a sports car developed from the Israeli-designed Sabra. Its best-known sporting model was the Scimitar GTE, a sporting estate often described as the best-selling car of its kind. Reliant stopped building its own models in 2001, and car production ended in 2002. See also classic cars.
