Jensen Motors was a British car maker from West Bromwich. It began as W J Smith & Sons, founded in 1922; the brothers Alan and Richard Jensen gained control and renamed it Jensen Motors Limited in 1934. Besides its own cars, Jensen built bodies for other makers, including the Austin-Healey 3000 and the Volvo P1800.
Among Jensen's own models, the 541 of 1955 had a glass-fibre body, and the C-V8 of 1962–1966 used a 6-litre Chrysler V8. The Jensen Interceptor of 1966–1976 also used Chrysler V8 power, and its sister model, the FF of 1966–1971, had full-time four-wheel drive and Dunlop Maxaret anti-lock brakes; about 320 were built. The Jensen-Healey roadster followed in 1972–1975. A receiver was appointed in 1975, and trading ceased in 1976. The name came back in 1998, when a new company built the S-V8 in Speke, Liverpool, until production ended in 2002. See also Sunbeam Tiger and Volvo P1800.
