About Asia Motors
Asia Motors was a South Korean maker of off-road vehicles, vans, trucks and buses, founded in 1965 and based in Gwangju. In its early years it assembled Fiat cars under licence, including the Fiat 124 from 1970.
Kia bought the company in 1976, and Asia Motors became Kia's specialist for utility vehicles: the Rocsta off-roader and its successor the Retona, the Towner microvan, the Topic and Combi minibuses and the Granto heavy truck; it also built military vehicles. In 1999 the Asia brand was dropped and the company was merged into Kia.
