Honda Civic Type R HRC: Hotter Type R in Development for the US Market
Honda has confirmed that a Civic Type R HRC, a more focused version of its front-wheel-drive hot hatch, is in development for the US market. The concept will be shown at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, Carscoops reported on 30 October.

Key takeaways
- Honda says the Civic Type R HRC is "in development for the U.S. market".
- The concept first appeared at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier in 2026.
- No technical changes, price or launch date have been announced.
- The car will be on show at SEMA, which runs from 3 to 6 November 2026.
What Honda has shown
The HRC Concept was developed with Honda Racing Corporation and made its debut at that Tokyo show, alongside a modified Prelude coupe. In Honda's latest photos the car is still wrapped in camouflage. It has a more aggressive front bumper, small aerodynamic winglets above the front wheel arches and a large rear wing. Carscoops expects these parts to add downforce and suspects they will come with firmer springs and dampers and bigger brakes, but Honda has not confirmed any of this.
The standard car uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 235 kW (315 hp) in US trim, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Whether HRC will find more power is not yet known. The 2027 Civic Type R has only received a modest update, which left some enthusiasts hoping for bigger changes.
Honda at SEMA
The HRC Civic will share the stand with several other projects, including a Passport Baja trophy truck with a hybrid twin-turbo V6 of more than 970 kW (1,300 hp), and a Prelude club racer built by Hasport using the Type R engine and gearbox. HRC US is also launching official performance parts at the show, such as sports exhausts, lightweight forged wheels and a short-throw gear shifter for the Civic Type R. These parts go on sale through Honda and Acura dealers and online in the US from March 2027.
What it means for you
Honda's announcement covers only the US market, and Carscoops does not mention Europe or the UK. European Type R fans should therefore not count on the HRC version until Honda says more. For now, the HRC project mainly shows that Honda is still investing in the Civic Type R and in sporty petrol cars. Anyone considering a current Type R in Europe can buy with confidence that Honda is still developing the Type R range.
