Mazda3 Range Simplified: Skyactiv-X Dropped, New Homura Plus Trim
Mazda has simplified the Mazda3 hatchback range in the UK. The unusual Skyactiv-X petrol engine is gone, so every Mazda3 now uses the 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G, and a new Homura Plus trim joins the line-up, Auto Express reported on 29 October.

Key takeaways
- Skyactiv-X (136 kW, 182 bhp) dropped from the Mazda3; the CX-30 keeps it for now.
- Only engine: 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol with 103 kW (138 bhp), manual or automatic on most trims.
- New Homura Plus trim with Bose audio, black leather and a 360-degree camera.
- Mazda UK says prices do not rise for the new model year.
Goodbye to Skyactiv-X
Skyactiv-X was one of the most unusual engines on sale: a petrol engine that uses spark-controlled compression ignition, a technique closer to how a diesel works, to save fuel. Only two Mazda models offered it, the Mazda3 and the CX-30. The CX-30 crossover keeps it for the foreseeable future. Mazda has not given an official reason for dropping it from the Mazda3. In the long run, both Skyactiv-X and Skyactiv-G are due to be replaced by a new engine family called Skyactiv-Z.
Trims and equipment
The range now runs Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Homura, Exclusive-Line, Homura Plus and Takumi.
- All versions: a driver attention monitor and new chrome details inside the LED headlights.
- Prime-Line: gloss black interior trim, emergency lane keeping, improved blind-spot monitoring and Smart Brake Support.
- Exclusive-Line: gunmetal grey interior trim and a new seat tilt adjustment for the driver.
- Homura Plus (new): based on the Homura, with a 12-speaker Bose sound system, black leather, electrically adjustable seats and a 360-degree camera.
The updated range goes on sale later in 2026.
What it means for you
If you were thinking of a Mazda3 with Skyactiv-X, look for remaining stock or a nearly new car now: the engine will not be built for this model any more. For most buyers the 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G is the simpler choice. It is a large petrol engine without a turbocharger, a simpler design that many owners choose for long-term reliability. The new Homura Plus is the trim to check if you want leather and premium audio without paying for the top Takumi version.
On the used market, the Skyactiv-X remains an interesting option for drivers who want good economy without a diesel, but ask for a full service history.
