Nio is a Chinese maker of premium electric cars, founded in 2014 by William Li (Li Bin) and headquartered in Shanghai. It listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in September 2018. The company is best known for its battery-swap stations, where a car's depleted battery is exchanged for a charged one.

Nio unveiled its first car, the EP9 electric sports car, in 2016. Deliveries of the ES8 SUV began in 2018, when the first battery-swap station opened in Shenzhen; the ES6 SUV followed in 2019, and the ET7 saloon debuted in 2021. The smaller Nio ET5 was revealed in December 2021. Nio began its expansion into Europe with deliveries in Norway in 2021. In May 2024 it launched Onvo, a mass-market brand, and in December 2024 it announced Firefly, a brand of small cars. As of July 2026 Nio operated 3,989 battery-swap stations, most of them in China.
