The Cadillac XT4 is a front- or all-wheel drive luxury SUV of the compact type. Immediately you can notice the unusual but already known optics, which received an unusual shape and placement of elements. The lion’s optics share is small, has sharp ends, and the rest extends along the front fender and slams into the front bumper of the SUV.
It was decided to apply LED technology as filler. Still, it is nice that there is no difference between the configurations. The optics are also equipped with daytime running lights and modern auxiliary functions. The main radiator grille has turned out strict. A group of designers decided to bend it to highlight the central part. It is also framed by chrome trim, and in the central part is placed a black mesh insert. The emblem of the brand, located in the grille’s central part, has undergone some changes. The designers said that they had added bright shades, which made it more saturated.
It is also worth noting the front bumper. It feels like the specialists managed to “wrap the lip” by using black plastic protection in the lower part. Thanks to the non-standard protrusion of the bumper itself, additional style is given. This allowed making the exterior of the Cadillac XT4 2020 more aggressive. Also, the lower radiator grille and two inserts on the sides of the bumper were not spared. The windshield was shaped from scratch. It is made of tempered glass and has an innovative film and light tinting. The basic version already received healing in the parking lot “wipers,” and the full versions will have full glass heating on the perimeter.
The American crossover side is a smaller version of the XT5, which has received minor modifications. It lacks a lot of chrome elements. The stern is also surprising—the unusual look of the feet, which are stretched to half the car’s height. Like the two scars, or as the company itself called them “dragon’s eye,” the rear feet especially emphasize the style of Cadillac XT4. Design is a new direction of style, which is already applied everywhere. The same can be applied to the interior of the new Cadillac XT4, which is completely identical to any interior of the company’s new model. There are differences, but only in trifles. Whatever way you look at it, Cadillac is positioned in the role of a luxury brand; for this reason, inside used leatherette covering. A separate option can be equipped with inserts of natural wood carbon fiber. However, the interior visually lacks something, but it is not clear what exactly.
Directly in front of the driver, the engineers placed a three-spoke steering wheel with an abundance of keys. Behind it, there is a dashboard of the analog type, in which the gauges are placed too far apart from each other, as the fingers cover the ends of the dials. Between them, there is a place for a large informative display.
Many manufacturers display the rear camera picture on the mirror. It is also possible to choose between the traditional mirror or displaying the image from the camera. But here the American crossover Cadillac XT4 went even further – the range of vision can be adjusted.
The center console has a recessed 8-inch multimedia system. This is the first model, which allows you to control the entertainment center with a puck mounted on the central tunnel. The climate control unit looks quite stylish. Thanks to the aluminum buttons, you understand that the interior is expensive and stylish. The tunnel itself is equipped with a pad for wireless charging, a gearbox switch, two cupholders, and the multimedia center controller.
The front has thick seats with electric adjustments. Naturally, it is not without light side support, and ventilation and massage can be installed as an option. When getting out of the car, the legs do not get dirty because the doors cover the sills completely. This is nice because regardless of the SUV contamination, the passengers will always be clean.
The rear is equipped with a comfortable sofa with high headrests and a wide armrest. There is not much free space in the back. It is all the fault of the size of the vehicle, although, in its class, it is almost the best indicator. Although the car is positioned as a 5-seater, only two adults can be seated comfortably.
The car has four USB ports and three 12-volt sockets. The central console has a slot for SD-cards. There is good news for those who like music – there is a Bose audio system, which stands out with its quality sound. The volume of the luggage compartment is 637 liters. It is possible to remove a back sofa, which allows getting 1,385 liters of usable space. A nice bonus is a completely flat floor.
Specifications Cadillac XT4 for the Russian market implies two inline 4-cylinder power plants to choose from. Base versions get a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, which has a dual-flow turbocharger, direct fuel injection, variable valve lift, 16-valve DOHC timing, as well as variable valve timing and a function of partial cylinder deactivation. All this allows to produce 200 horsepower (350 Nm). The gasoline “engine” consumes about 8.7 liters of fuel in the combined cycle every 100 kilometers.
It is interesting that the company is not going to use a hybrid or electric version yet, but said that the SUV will be equipped with a diesel engine for the first time in the history of the brand.
Instead, the crossover can be equipped with a 2.0-liter diesel engine with turbocharging, battery-operated Common Rail injection, and a 16-valve timing system. Thanks to this, the engine generates 174 horsepower (381 Nm). Such motors allow you to accelerate from a place to the first hundred, taking from 8.6 to 10.6 seconds. The top speed limit does not pass the mark of 223 kilometers per hour. Cadillac XT4 diesel fuel consumption was 6.7 liters per every 100 kilometers.
By default, the crossover has a 9-speed Hydra-Matic 9T50 automatic transmission and front-wheel drive only. However, as an option (for the domestic market, it is already “standard”), it is possible to install an all-wheel-drive system, where the rear part is engaged as necessary thanks to two electronically controlled clutches with two friction packs on the GKN gearbox.
As the basis for the new car, the Americans decided to use the GM E2 modular platform (which for the first time could be used on the cars of the American company). In the power structure of the body, there is high-strength steel. The new Insignia also use such a platform. Both axles of the new Cadillac XT4 have independent suspensions and passive shock absorbers, and lateral stabilizers. The front has McPherson-type mechanisms, and the rear has a multilevel system. If you take the Sport modification, it gets an adaptive chassis, allowing changing the calibration in real-time every two milliseconds.
The American SUV is controlled by rack-and-pinion steering, which is assisted by an active electric booster. The braking system has an electrohydraulic drive, disc devices on all wheels (front ventilated), as well as an abundance of electronic assistants. As you can see, the characteristics of the Cadillac XT4 inspire respect. The company said that it positions the car as only an urban car, which is noticeable by a rather modest ground clearance and small entry and exit angles.
Suppose you are behind the wheel of the new crossover. In that case, you can feel confident in any unforeseen traffic situation – the car has an abundance of different systems. For example, Cadillac XT4 2021 has an automatic emergency braking system, which warns of the threat of a frontal collision. It is able to control the space in front of the car and warn the driver of a dangerous convergence with the car ahead or suddenly turned out to be a pedestrian. It can also automatically prepare and apply the braking system if the owner has failed to do so himself.
The Americans have also introduced a system that warns of dangers using vibration. The driver’s seat is equipped with a patented vibration alarm system. It can send special pulses to the left, right, or both sides of the seat to warn the driver of a potential threat, as well as the direction from which they are coming.
Special mention should be made of the interactive rearview mirror. This innovative mirror has a video streaming feature that allows you to monitor everything that is happening behind the Cadillac XT4 2021. And with adaptive cruise control, which uses front radar, you can adjust your speed and maintain the driver’s chosen safe distance to the cars in front.
